Yeah, but how much of that trailer is pre-rendered and how much is in-game?
Or a better question (since I know the PS3 is capable of some fantastic graphical feats), how much of that is in-engine cutscene, and how much of that are we going to experience during actual GAMEPLAY?
Don't get me wrong, it looks shit-hot, but I'm getting tired of RPGs where graphical quality and gameplay are completely separated, like "never shall the two meet".

I thought it was pretty obvious what was pre-rendered and what wasn't. The scenes at about 1:25 (giant colossi with a city on its back) and from 2:15-2:40 were all pre-rendered while the rest was in-engine.
Pretty hot trailer. I'd also like to see what the gameplay looks like tho. I know the first trailer was gameplay, but that might've been only a target preview of what the game would play like.
Is there a version of the new trailer with english titles? I'd really like to put that on at work but all in Jap, even the name of the game, its not gonna pass.
I haven't watch this one yet, but IIRC, the entire first trailer was gameplay, and that looked incredibly nice.
Really? I thought it was mainly prerendered but in the style of gameplay to give you an idea of what it'd be like. Still haven't had a chance to watch this new video though, as I'm at work, so I could be wrong.

If I didn't know better, I'd say that was Final Fantasy XIV. :P
Still, looked pretty good. The 'summon' animation was a combat render, I'm pretty sure. Looks like Sony is still managing to score the big budget JRPGs. Although, after FF XII I'm not sure I'm into those games anymore.
Looked to be about 70/30 in terms of pre rendered/in game. And even the in game looks a bit disappointing compared to some of the stuff on the 360. :-/
Hopefully this will go the way of all other ps3 games I want. It will come out on the 360 as well.

70% pre-rendered? Did you watch the trailer? There was only about 40 seconds of pre-rendered cutscenes while the other 2 minutes of footage were pretty clearly being rendered in-engine.
As for it looking disappointing compared to the stuff on the 360. Yeah, I guess it would look disappointing if you want a blatant DQ or FF ripoff (I'm half joking there, half not).
projectmayhem: You'll be lucky if Level 5 ever develop a 360 game, after what happened to True Fantasy Live. But yeah, as Sleep said, White Knight Story is being funded, published and co-developed by Sony, so there's about as much chance of it appearing on the 360 as there is of Halo 3 appearing on the PS3.
i have no idea why people think this looks good. the conflicting art styles are jarring. the big head/big eye characters look grotesque in a realistic setting.

I dunno man. Other than the transformation scene, the only other scene that is obviously in game is around the 1:15 mark. The rest looks prerendered. There's a stiffness to the character models in what I can tell is in game, and what the rest of the trailer looks like.

It'd probably be an issue of Microsoft not wanting to waste anymore time on them.

Well, Level 5 DID do Dragon Quest VIII. The artstyle itself looks very Final Fantasy-ish. I'm not trying to hate on the game or anything. I'd definitely like to play it. I imagine it, along with MGS4 and FolkLore, will convince me to grab a PS3 once the price tag is more reasonable.

Could you be more specific? Other than the stiffness of the characters and environment from what I speculate is the in game stuff, compared to what I speculate is pre rendered, I can't really see much of a change. At least, not on the levels of Final Fantasy VII. But then again, that game is probably the pinnacle of bad art direction.

Nah, there's a clear visual difference between the pre-rendered and the real-time. For instance, when they're flying away from the giant worm thing, it's clearly pre-rendered. But the battle that's occurring in the house (around the 1 minute mark) is quite clearly a step down from that, which is an indication of it being in-engine.
It'd probably be an issue of Microsoft not wanting to waste anymore time on them.
If White Knight Story were multiplatform, I don't think Microsoft would be arguing against it. In the end though, it's Level 5's decision on what platforms they work on and what publishers they work with.

They didn't design anything in DQVIII (or DQIX) though, they just did all the technical stuff (art and engineering). But it does look kinda of Final Fantasy-ish (the battle system in particular looks like an evolution of FFXII's battle system) but with a few differences. Some of the creatures/monsters seem to have been influenced by Shadow of the Colossus (like the creature with the city on its back) while the Knights look very 'Escaflowne'-ish.
There are some pictures going around showing character creation, so I'd really like to know how that fits into it. Here's one screen of it, here's one comparing it to the actual person and lastly here is a recreation of the editor-in-chief of Famitsu, Hirokazu Hamamura.

I guess he's talking about the "realistic" scenery with anime-looking characters walking around within it. Personally, I don't really know what he's talking about. The scenery isn't that realistic (what with the giant monsters walking around) and the character models, although clearly anime inspired, look very detailed and animate pretty damn well.
The trailers for this game are awesome, and pretty much have been from the get-go. In fact, I was disappointed that there was no new info at E3 (this new stuff rectifies that pretty well, so thanks for posting it, Unco). Hopefully the gameplay will turn out as good as the graphics, but so far everything seems all right.
I'm thinking this'll be the game that gives me a final shove towards a PS3. That trailer was just ungodly levels of awesome. I really hope you're right about the NA release date (late '08), since that will probably be the next time I have enough spare cash to buy another next-gen console. Come on, price drop!
Hopefully this will go the way of all other ps3 games I want. It will come out on the 360 as well.
Nope, sorry, but sure, keep dreaming.
On another note, is there anything else Level 5 have been working on? I would love to see another couple of JRPG's from them. I mean White Knight Story and Final Fantasy XIII have already pushed me to get a PS3 first, but if anything else is comming I might just get it in a couple of weeks.

Yeah but isn't that for the Wii/DS? Or are they going to port that to the PS3 as well?

No, it's coming to the DS. I took your first two sentences at more weight then the last one. But yeah, that is their focus these days. DQ IX and to a lesser degree White Knight Story.

Jeanne d'Arc for the PSP, a SRPG which should be coming out in the US next month (21st of August). Then there's Dragon Quest IX for the DS and White Knight Story for the PS3. Oh yeah, there's also Professor Layton for the DS, which will be published by Nintendo in December. They're also making another two Professor Layton games (the second will be out this year in Japan and the third will be out next year).
Meanwhile, Rogue Galaxy will finally be released in PAL territories in September. We'll probably have to wait until early next year for Jeanne d'Arc as well, but I'll probably just import it (especially since the US dollar is in the craphole).

Good. I'm not crazy. I thought the same thing, and was discussing this with a friend of mine who's really into the PS3 and such, and he just kept insisting that the majority of that trailer was in game.
Glad you commented that. Now I don't feel as crazy.

I think it was a bad experience on both sides, honestly.

That's the one thing that has appealed to me, the fact that they're aiming for huge, towering, enemies.

Gamevideos have some gameplay footage up from TGS. Download the videos here, here and here. Note that they accidentally named the videos out of order, the proper order is 'wks.tgs.07.cam', then 'gameplay3' and lastly 'gameplay2'.
It's the same area that appeared in the very first trailer at the 2006 TGS, though it's a fair bit longer. It also looks pretty much identical to that trailer (proof enough that the first trailer wasn't pre-rendered IMO). Oh and whoever was playing it, (understandably) sucked.
This looks pretty fucking bomb, especially the giant exploding island near the end. Epic. Hopefully English dubbing either never exists, or doesn't suck.

And lo, on the 25th of December White Knight Chronicles was released in Japan! And the Japanese saw that it was worth streaming online for the rest of the world to see... BEHOLD! WHITE KNIGHT CHRONICLES!
I can't say I'm all about WKC. Basically if your RPG doesn't have 'Shin Megami Tensei', 'Fallout' or 'Valkyria' in the title, I don't have much interest.
But I found this here streamin' gameplay, and I thought a PA peep or two may enjoy it. Merry Christmas, from the far east!
Edit: Okay, just watched that second trailer linked in the OP. Now I'm interested.

Nope. My guess is that it'll be released in Early 2008 in Japan and Late 2008 for the US and Europe.
Btw, Sony also released the Japanese Warhawk trailer and the music is bad.
