So, you're probably thinking "what the fuck is simplify media, and who does BenMcNumbers think he is cramming it down my big cakehole?".
Well the answer, you arrogant wanker, is that it's some kind of music streaming thingy, for streaming your own music library to other computers. And that sounds pretty fucking dapper to me.
"How do I get a slice of this delicious music pie?" I hear you ask. Well, point your browsing engines here:
And feast upon the gooey nutrients contained within. When you have a username, post it here, so I can add it to this mighty fine OP and we can all have a rummage through each others music libraries. And point and laugh.
This looks really awesome, as I'm always looking for new music to listen to, but the only thing I use iTunes for is for putting songs on my iPod. I see that they're working on a Winamp version (which is my preferred player) but it really seems like iTunes would work better for this sort of thing.
So, my question is, what's the best way to add my music library (107 gigsworth, almost 25k songs) to iTunes while maintaining some sort of structure? Or should I just be like "Hey, iTunes, here's my music, have at it."?
EDIT:
So it looks like I don't even have to import everything into iTunes after all. Hooray! Go ahead and add me to the list. The screen name is chrisdude.
EDIT2:
Also, I apologize for my poorly tagged files. But you'll get over it. :P
This looks like an interesting way to expand my musical tastes, so I'm in. Screen name will be thescythe21, and I already added clarioncamping and chrisdude. Fair warning, a lot of my music is stuff I copied from my brother's computer, and he was a DJ for a while, so while I've trimmed down the terrible music a fair amount, there will probably still be some eyebrow raising things in my library.
You fucking fags.
I thought this was some sort of doohickey that was independent of software. Does this mean that my computer would act as the server which people connect to and commence large dong rape on my dear pipe?
Thank you sir, but I must decline this fine offer of internet rape.
Wish I could plug my iPod into this, the only reason I am installing it is to browse your libraries. If the group fills up at some point I can be kicked as I won't be contributing at all. My home PC is a beast and I don't want to run it all day to stream music I have in my pocket already.
I'm fairly sure that you only actually need Itunes to play the shared music- you need it installed, but you don't need to keep your music organized in it, or use it for anything else.
I am using it to listen to Ben's music. I wonder what kind of traffic this thing creates on our work network. I know PC's with strange/large bandwidth usage get their IP's banned on the network. My cube neighbor tried hosting a torrent from his work PC once and got shut out for a day. I guess Friday isn't a bad day for such an experiment.
Hey guys, sorry my stuff hasn't been up, I kept getting an error that kept shutting down the program when I hit a certain number of files. I logged a support request and one of the developers emailed me back right away with some fixes, but I had to go to work. :P
Anyway, it looks like things are working now, so stream away.
Because I see this as worthwhile and quality software I will bump this thread by saying that I think that Ben has a hard-on for "<insert adjective> Metal". I did not know there were that many variations of the metal genre. I am also uncertain about this Acid Jazz music, do I need to be on acid to like it?
[Edit]: Also Catatonia seems very out of place in your library, but a good listen none the less.

I sure do loves me some metal (honestly, I usually listen to electronicy stuff, but only on vinyl)
Also Zimarooski has rad taste (<3 the Avalanches and the JSRF soundtrack)
More people need to get in on this, it really is fun poking through other peoples music collections, and is great for finding new music.
I am starting to feel bad for not sharing. I found a few straggling mp3's on my work PC. I may also boot up my beastly home PC tonight so people can look around, as long as it isn't ungodly hot out again like the last few nights.
Apparently Simplify doesn't like my Game Remix folder, but everything else seems to be running smoothly.
If you like variety, come take a look.
You sir are the only other person I have ever encountered who even knows who Focus is. Hocus Pocus is some mad shit to listen to while driving on the highway.

It's amazing.
I only learned about it a few months ago from a friend who kept insisting I listen to it. I demand it be included in Rock Band just so I can hear people try and do the vocal part (and because it's a badass song).
This program has made it painfully obvious to me that I need to correctly tag my songs. Is there an easy way to do this other than doing it song by song?
Do I NEED iTunes to actually get this program to work? Please say no... I'd love to share my music with you guys, but I refuse to have iTunes on my computer.

At the moment you have to have iTunes installed, but it doesn't use any of the features of it it would seem, it just uses it as an interface to check out other people's songs.
They're working on versions for Winamp and WMP, so their site says.
Yeah! More validation for my choice not to "upgrade"! Sucks for you though. Did you look at their support info to see if there is a workaround or something?

Tonight and this weekend I will try and have my collection online when I can. Look for "Mother Brain" after drface, that's where I have all my stuff. Any other PC you see with my ID is fairly barren.
I find it curious that someone who has an anti-piracy diatribe linked in their signature is now actively asking people to, without authorisation, rebroadcast music in a peer-to-peer network.

I'm not saying I care, I just find it interesting
This is music sharing, not out-right piracy. No different than if any of you fine gents came round and perused my actual record collection.

MusicBrainz Picard. It uses some kind of funky algorithm to determine track names by scanning the file itself. You do need to check it, and it doesn't get everything right, but it correctly tagged almost all of my music.

I will hit this when I get new connection activates (tuesday) and I have re-ripped all my music.
So, my question is, what's the best way to add my music library (107 gigsworth, almost 25k songs) to iTunes while maintaining some sort of structure? Or should I just be like "Hey, iTunes, here's my music, have at it."?

sod that.

Seems I spoke too soon.
"Ah, I'd like to have an argument."
"Certainly sir, have you been here before?"
[Edit]: Also Catatonia seems very out of place in your library, but a good listen none the less.

Dear Good Sir,
I highly approve of your musical tastes.
Your friend in music,
ChrisDude
I'm guessing this program doesn't allow for downloads.

Also, I strongly advise people to check out Rotersand in my library, and Air and Royksopp in Zima's.
Yodel rock for the win, and now I have another band whose albums I have to check out.
Simplify Media works!

I'll think about it. But only because you guys are so damn awesome.
If you like awesome Britrock, check out The Wombats and the new Maximo Park album.
Even if you don't, give them a try.
Yeah! More validation for my choice not to "upgrade"! Sucks for you though. Did you look at their support info to see if there is a workaround or something?
It's "in the works" according to the website.
Ewwwww!
