Upgrading to an X360 Elite

So I'm thinking of upgrading my premium to an elite. My premium console has been on-off redlighting for a while now so I figure I could trade it in while it still works /sometimes/ and get the elite model. My reasoning is mainly, sadly, down to the colour. I know I could use the new 3 year warrenty, but I'd quite like a new console... so, might as well trade up.

My only worry now is my HDD saves. When I upgrade, can I use one of the other transfer kits (that comes when you buy the HDD seperate) to transfer? Can I just buy one off ebay or borrow one or whatever and use it? Or is there another method of getting one?

Thanks in advance and all that. :D

Word on the street is that you could borrow a buddy's transfer kit. Never done it myself though.

Also, trade it in? You mean like, GameStop?

Cause that'd be lame. You ought to get it repaired via MS, then eBay the sucker...?

I'm really jealous of the HDMI in that Elite. I don't need the HDD. Maybe the Halo edition would be a better upgrade for me?

Well, trade in, ebay, same thing really. Dunno how I'll do it (will investigate trade-in prices at GAME, Gamestation and CEX), but either way I'm getting rid of my old premium. Even if I ebay it.

I don't know if they still are, but previously, Microsoft was mailing out HDD transfer kits for new elite owners.

But you're not going to unload a [sometimes] faulty unit on some unsuspecting chump, right?

I'm gonna wait for a Halo XBOX, because it has HDMI but not the huge HDD.. so it will be cheaper.

I would upgrade my launch-360 to an Elite, or at least to a 120 gigabyte hard drive, assuming they worked out these stupid license-issues. In no-way-shape-or-form am I cool with having to be logged into XBOX Live in order to play XBOX Live games following the transfer. Mind you, 99% of the time I am logged into XBOX Live, but what about the times when my ISP is down, or god forbid, XBOX Live is down. They just need to transfer/update licenses for all downloads during a console/drive update; they wipe the old drive anyway.

Their loss... and it's good for my wallet.
