So I have a PS2 and Xbox 360 and have San Andreas for the PS2. I like it a lot but I can't help but wonder if the old Xbox would be a better investment even at this point.
So, are the graphics better enough to warrant another purchase? Most importantly, can I still listen to custom soundtracks in the 360 in game rather then the rap music that I can't stand?

There's actually a lot of good hip-hop out there nowadays, but you'll never hear any of it on commercial radio or cable television. You've got to listen to college radio or just do some digging on your own.
hmm, maybe somebody should actually answer Magic Pink's question. Does GTA:SA look better on Xbox than PS2? Does it support custom soundtracks?
I've not used a regular Xbox game on my 360, so I'm assuming that if you can do it on other Xbox games, this wouldn't be any different.
Can you? I've never tried. I remember hearing something about using your own soundtracks in GTA in some special way but I can't remember what game it was for or even what it was.

It sounds like you're not entirely enjoying the game anyway... I wouldn't waste anymore money into it, if I were you.
I think they sell a Trilogy set for either systems (PS2, Xbox) for relatively cheap.

See, that's the REALLY pathetic part. I like the game a lot. I really wish I could do the rest of the things I read in the strategy guide but I'm still stuck at the damn BEGINNING OF THE GAME. For, like, three years now! I just do not have patience for that stupid mission.
I figure getting a prettier version will at least let me play the beginning parts again and they'll look somewhat newer.
Assuming I'm remembering right, this means your music would play even when you're not in a car though, and you'd have no playlist control once you jumped into the game. But, like others said about, the actual custom soundtrack feature built into the game won't work with the XBOX 360. They should patch that.
EDIT: As far as which version you get, I love my XBOX version, it looks much nicer to me. Getting used to the unmappable controls took time though, I prefer to do my accelerating with a button versus the triggers. Hopefully the new Grand Theft Auto will let you map some of the controls.
ANOTHER EDIT: Damn, also forgot to mention that original XBOX saves on an XBOX 360 can't be copied to a memory card or backed up at all.
That part's annoying, but it's not impossible. Just go slow and patient. You will NEVER get through it driving how you can the rest of the game(fast and reckless). You have to go slow, and be careful.
Alternatively, there's probably an 'invincible cars' cheat code. I don't know if it'll work, but hey,it's worth a shot.
Maybe you should give it up and play something easier. Take Ikargua, for instance. Good times. And no pesky limos to park.

The "auto repair" cheat doesn't actually work for that mission. You still have to go to a pay and spray.
I've tried the damn thing so many times I see it when I close my eyes. I never fuck up in it either, it's always some fucker who just comes barreling into me out of nowhere. I broke two controllers over that mission.
Same here. It's a fucking ass of a mission, but it's not unbeatable.

Every time I see a new GTA thread I'm reminded that I really need to beat San Andreas. I only have like 3 missions left.
Real early on. You steal a limo to kidnap...Madd Dogg, I think is who it is, and if it's damaged during the drive over to 'pick him up', you have to go across town to a pay n' spray to get it fixed.
Also, you're on a time limit.
And limos are big fucking targets for asshole AI.
...Hmm...Idea. Why not use the 'no peds' code? Also removes most traffic.
Or pong... thats easy to beat... even my sister can beat that and she doesnt know what a Atari is...
I'd recommend getting the Xbox version, just because, presumably, you won't have to deal with the PS2's often horrendous slowdown. Of course, that assumes that they didn't somehow butcher the controls on the Xbox / 360 -- who the fuck thought right-trigger being acceleration was a good idea for Crackdown, with no option to change it?!

Also if you have the 360 remote you can skip tracks too.
Now for some limo tips. Growing up you've probably heard at some point "look both ways before crossing the street!". well take that advice. Other than intersections and turns I suggest using the first person car view. No point in blocking view of whats in front of you to see a little bit behind you in standard camera. I'm sure you'll get it eventually and just stop breaking controllers. It's a nasty habit.

I always found that heat effect distortion on the PS2 version seriously annoying, on the PC version it's much more subtle.. especially when you're running at 1280x1024, with graphics settings and anti-aliasing etc.
It should be fairly cheap to pickup, I have a PS2 dualshock joypad connected upto my pc via a usb adapter. You could do the same if you feel the need for it. (although I use the mouse+keyboard for shooting up people)

Same situation here actually, owned the PS2 version but barely played it and eventually exchanged it. This is blasphemy, especially for a hard core GTA fan like myself. I don't even feel like getting into an explanation. I've been thinking about redeeming myself by getting the xbox version to play it on my 360 which I secretly hope will make it look even better and then proceed to make me some breakfast.
If there is a limo mission, that isn't it. You're supposed to kidnap Madd Dogg's manager, which requires hijacking one of his guards' car. I don't know what model it is, but it isn't a limo. And you have to travel like two blocks to your destination, with pretty light traffic.
