Right arrow key always stuck on... how to disable the key?

My laptop keyboard's right arrow key is almost always stuck on. Sometimes if a whack it a couple times, it will let itself go, but in a couple minutes it will go back to being stuck on. I don't know how this happened, it just did one day. Whatever.

There a re .reg files all over the place that disable the windows key, the caps lock key, and the like. Is there one (or could someone tell me how to make one) that will disable this key?

Have you thoroughly cleaned your keyboard? As in, pop off the keys and clean underneath it? Something could be wedged under there.

I have popped off the keycap and the scissor thing that goes under the cap. No dirt, no sticky liquid residue, no food remnants... So I have no idea what the problem is.

I think I killed the key by playing with the little rubber nipple that lives under the keycap... Which I guess I could live with, but it seems to have also killed my scrolling area on my touchpad (when the key was "stuck on", the scrolling function of the touchpad wouldn't work, which is strange...)

Try turning your laptop upside down, removing the battery, and putting it back in again while still upside down. As far as I know, this resets all the keys to their unpressed defaults if anything goes wrong with it. - my brother's lappy did a similar thing, but with the function key (a little more annoying :D).

Thanks for the advice, but it didn't help.

It's really weird, the key no longer functions at all since I messed with its assembly, but occasionally when I start the computer, it beeps during bootup as if a key is being held down. Also occasionally, my touchpad's tap to click and scrolling functions just stop working, which I can only guess happens when it "thinks" the key is being held down. But there's no obvious symptom of the key being held down (no scrolling around in a text document, for example.)

After a couple days of searching, I found this: http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/

It lets you remap your entire keyboard, including disabling keys. Looks like I'm good to go here.

Thanks for the legwork lukin, I had a problem with my down arrow key. Just disabled it with that great little app and can now stop pulling my hair out!
