Eh, Ogre Kingdoms all the way. Become a mercenary, protect the caravans on their way through the mountains with your life and end up as food for the man-eating Ogres or get enslaved by the Chaos dwarfs.

Would it be possible to add races that don't have homelands, or at least not a head-on matchup like the six current races? I'm just thinking the Skaven would have to be paired up with humans again, if they were paired with anyone that made sense. That and no one but Skaven ever see Skavenblight, so far as I can tell.
I don't know what would make a great expansion (except Clan Pestilence Skaven vs Lizardmen possibly), but i can safely say what would make a bad expansion; Wood Elves vs Beastmen. I mean sure, they're mortal enemies and have their own 'homelands' (Athel Loren for WE and Drakwald Forest for Beastmen) but lets face it, Wood Elves would be just another elf race only green instead of gold/white/light blue or black/dark blue, and Beastmen would be too much like Chaos. So there'd be no originality and it'd...be easier...to make it happe...you know, if i was a pessimistic person, i'd say they would be the next expansion for sure

Ogres could be a pet class with multiple gnoblars to command. That would be sweet.
Uh, that's because they basically would be Chaos. In order for the Beastmen to work as part of Destruction, they'd have to follow Tzeentch. Couldn't have them follow another God.
So they could tweak the look to give them a more Tzeentch-flavor. I think they could make it quite a bit different from the existing Chaos classes.
I have actually always wanted a Skeleton character
Wights are skeletons that are actually possible IMO. Wights are intelligent skeletons raised by necromancers, and are on the Vampire Counts army list.
Yeah I swore after DAOC I would never play another Mythic game, thats how badly they burned people on that one IMHO. But the pain has eased over time, so I'll probably pick up WAR when it comes out and I applied to beta a couple months ago as well so *shrug*
WAR will be more of a niche game IMHO, as all games that concentrate mostly on PVP tend to be.
Just remember that SWG had an all-star team of "experienced MMO staff" and look how that one turned out -_-;; Although to be fair to Raph Koster et al -- I got the distinct feeling that their hands were being tied by upper management that was dictating to them how to run the game. I can't see him willingly spawning the abomination that is NGE on their subscribers otherwise
what the hell daoc did you play? cause it clearly wasnt the one I played. I played the one that was the best group/team/guild based pvp game system to date. (uo is my favorite for 1v1 pvp)
ah, so you played the one that only featured the mainlands and SI, because any DAOC after that was total shit
Yes TOA was shit, which is why they made the Classic servers.. essentially they made raid content epic items, then realized that it was a bad idea for a PvP centric game, but still left the content on the regular servers for the people who do enjoy epic PvE combat.
So they made a mistake, then tried to correct it, that is what I want the developers of games I play to do in the rare case something unbalancing makes it past the test server.

the word that sticks out most in your post was "tried". It is true that they eventually tried to fix some of the problems but by the time they got around to the shit that was important (class and core mechanics) the damage was already done. Catacombs expansion: tried to ruin outside leveling and farming, and added in some of the most broken classes to date. Darkness Rising: Basically added newer graphics and and a really long quest line. Woohoo. Labyrinth of the Minotaur: added a new dungeon/zone/whatever, new race, and a new class that all realms could use. I have no real problem with the Mauler class, but all the Labyrinth really is is the new place to farm/powerlevel. Also keep in mind with each new expansion there has been less of a reason to even visit the SI/mainland areas, unless youre like me, who likes to run groups in the old epic zones. Just recently they have been trying to scale the drops from the world bosses to at least be on par with the shit you could farm by yourself. Of course, after a couple days of farming none of this would really matter, since you can easily get enough money to just craft your own armor and weapons, which produces items that beat out almost anything found off mobs in terms of quality and stats.
As far as classic servers go, they arent really the definition of classic. All it really gets rid of is A. TOA and B. buffbots.
to bring this back to topic, I want to play WAR because it is going to be focused around PVP, and that seems to be Mythic's forte. I am also sure that mythic learned from their mistakes and is going to do a much better job in their programming and all that good stuff.
bitch please, even now daoc still is the best team based pvp
dont get me wrong, im not saying it sucks, but it is by no means perfect. I always thought having a choice of three playable factions was a good idea. I also liked the fact that they dont share the same fucking classes, its just that they waited too damn long to fix some stuff that should have been fixed as soon as it was released. What I hope for in Darkfall and Age of Conan is that they will have the vast PVE content WoW has but also the castle assaulting, giant warzone stuff that DAOC has.
On another note, there was a post by one of the German CM guys about the Euro folks not getting any beta invites for like 2 weeks (guild or individual).
Not sure if the NA and Euro guild stuff was going to start at the same time though....

That being said, I'd rather know that it's weeks off, rather than just refreshing email constantly.
perhaps the devs at Mythic are having so much fun playing their incomplete game they can't draw themselves away from it long enough to actually make it.

Paul's blogs and the videos would seem to support this.
To further give positive love points the Momentum, or whatever it was called, system is pretty damn cool. The character models and animations are better, in my eyes, than WoW and the starting area just oooozes personality. I only played Greenskin but I can't possibly imagine why anyone would want to play human. The names for weapons alone greenside are worth the price of admission.
The combat, short of momentum, is your standard MMO fair. Slower than CoH but faster than WoW, at least early on. My friend said you can realistically level up completely through PvP. Killed PCs actualyl drop loot (not their own) which sounds cool but in practice it bothered the hell out of me seeing people looting corpses in teh middle of a PvP warzone. I'll be very interested to see how the higher levels turn out.
I loved DAoC so I'm happy to see WAR has the makings of a true break out hit. I can easily see the PvP focused members of WoW jumping ship.
I hear that in scenarios ("battlegrounds", cept there's more than 4), you cant loot till you win or something. maybe it wasnt scenarios but something else. either way they want to implement a system that discourages mid-battle looting.
although loot'n is a very orcy thing to do and I can see a little goblin running for shiny stuffz
If they want to discourage it why not just have it be an auto-drop feature? They could go halfway, make it an auto-drop with a small confirmation window that shows the item and has a Loot/Drop option.
Every time someone says anything about WAR obviously taking some inspiration from Warcraft art, I want to beat them in the face with a 5th edition rulebook and shove a handful of those old plastic gobbo spearmen up their ass.
Dammit.
And yeah, looting in PvP situations seems a bit odd.
Pretty curious to try this out. Wish I could get into the beta.
Can anyone give me a good idea of what sort of system it takes to run the game well? Are you beta folks allowed to talk about that stuff?
Nope. And no one in the guild invite has received the actual client yet.
That being said, it will probably require an average modern system; 2.0+ ghz dual core, 1-2gb RAM, late 6 or 7 series Nvidia card with 256+ vRAM. According to podcasts the current beta is a lot higher than the end goal, in terms of requirements.
The art doesn't actually look very WoWish in motion, at least I didn't think it did. I like it more than WoW's art, actually, just because it doesn't all look low rez. Nice texture details and the character models are round instead of looking like they are made out of various triangles and boxes.
i can agree with you that it is not perfect, but I challenge anyone who pisses on it to show me a better team based pvp system in a mmo right now.
Because that's what MMORPGs are about, team-based PVP.
They could be on occasion, if they wanted to. Instead of constant grinding/raiding for gear.

I mean, I still can enjoy WoW, theoretically.
I just need to have a horde warrior at 70 and both of my buds to be playing along with me.
Problem is, I don't have time to level a warrior now. Certainly not spending a fucking billion hours getting him to 70, only to be miles behind. And, after leveling two warriors to 60, I can say right now that it's a fucking chore to get a warrior up to snuff.
So, more than anything, I guess WAR is a fresh start for me. It certainly has the focus I appreciate, and some classes I can get down on. One of my favorite things about WoW was tanking on my warriors, using all the abilities in quick succession so I rarely had a full rage bar.
If WAR has a class that can tank (and it has lots of that) and a run-in-your-face melee class (akin to an arms warrior) then I'll be set.

Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

That's just kind of a clusterfuck though, and bullshit to balance.

Zombies and vampires are over-rated.

ps.
having any hopes that darkfall will come out is futile my friend.
I must say I enjoyed the little bit of time I spent in it 100x more than WoW.
totally not for ratting purposes

This isn't a new concept.

so like, as long as you only pvp with guildies/friends, you win!

That class was fun to play at PAX.
