In a strange break from our normal adventures, in this thread we're going to be posting art that ISN'T ours.
Instead I want to know what artists inspire you. The people whose work influences yours, those artists that you admire and those that you envy. Hopefully we can all find some new sources that will fuel our creative fires.
A couple of basic guidlines:
If the person has a website, link us to that site!
Try and provide at least one picture as an example of their work.
Since we're going to posting images in-line, I'd recommend re-hosting pictures yourself - it saves bandwidth leeching for your artists and also prevents nasty anti-hotlinking images. The easiest way to do this is to use imgred.com - literally all you need to do is type "
http://imgred.com/" before any url, and it will automatically be rehosted for you. Here's an example:

And now for my obvious choice of favorite artist:

Craig Mullins
Even if you haven't heard of him, you've probably seen something that he's done: his concept work has set the artistic style for Marathon, Halo, Age of Empires, and movies like Apollo 13, Forest Gump, the Matrix Revolutions and the Chronicles of Narnia. His work manages to be both realistic and still use impressionistic brush strokes to great effect. Being able to reduce a painting to the bare minimum of brush strokes needed to convey exactly what you want is one of the most difficult tasks for any artist, but Mullins has mastered it.

My favourite is Opera Tree -
"Lo, the horse's trot caused such a ruckus that the tree began to sing opera!
The foul ghosts, unnerved from their slumber, dashed and scowled, and grimaced and gnashed to scare the newcomer away . . .
But alas, his blindness rendered their efforts useless."
Another is Is This Desire?
As for other artists, Michael Whelan, Brian Froud, and Ken Marschall.

His style completely inspired me. I was always scared of the way I doodled, because it simply didn't compare to most major artists. Then I read Blankets, and I realized '... This guy kind of draws in the same stylized way I do. And he's getting paid for it. Shit.' So here I am now.
Kaori Yuki, her details are outstanding. I have an angel infatuation and an obsession for wings because of her.
Ai Yazawa. Her fashion-art is outstanding.
Last, but not least, Terry Moore. Especially his more Art Nouveau style, which I try to emulate.
His scraps:
When he's not fucking around:
Everything else seems lackluster compared to his stuff, no matter how good it may be. He has a very dynamic style that I worship.
Wieringo died recently as you may know.

^full of gold. His style a cross between good anime and old school Marvelosty.
Tim Sale

He's just awesome. It's no secret he does the art for Heroes. (and yes, I know he's colorblind)
Dino Ignacio. Filipino artist.

I just LOVE his style, I actually have met this guy (he used to go out with a relative of mine) he's a really great guy. Very inspiring and one of the main reasons I still draw. He's done a lot of the 3d animation bumpers for Gamespot, he's really versatile and talented. He did the flash for comedian Rex Navarette's Superfriends skit. > http://www.fractalcow.com/rex/
I'm also a fan of Ayami Kojima, a.k.a. the Castlevania lady.
spoilder'd for teh HUEG, because you really need to see these in high res to appreciate the incredible workmanship.
He's actually and Udon artist. He's from Toronto. He went to Sheridan. He used to have his own site but I guess not anymore. In any case, I met him once. Nice guy.
I am amazed by the way he manages to blend, shade and just portray such a realistic, yet mythic picture.
Take note that this is NSFW
Jose Manuel Oli
Spoilered for HOLY CRAP HUGE. Jose works big but manages some incredible realism - I'm honestly not sure what his technique is, I know he uses painter and a wacom but it's all blended to the point where you can't see any brush strokes, and his paintings straddle the line of photorealism.
Anry Nemo
I wish I could find more of Anry's stuff. He used to have a site but it's completely gone and he seems to have vanished off the net. It's sad since he's really good with dynamic, sweeping compositions.
He does, however, have a deviantart with some stuff other than what is on the site you linked.

Zdzislaw Beksinski
And just because his music is so fucking gorgeous and inspirational...
Zbigniew Preisner
His music is also featured on Beksinski's website. Give it a good listen, you won't be disappointed.

Kaneko specializes in monster design, but I also love his character art. ABe mostly does the latter.
If I ever aspire to draw anything, they're my inspiration.
Sterling Hundley

Vivienne Westwood
Aubrey Beardsley
John R. Neill
Quentin Blake (he's the only artist whose pictures always make me smile)
Shaun Tan
Jeffrey Smart (I can't seem to find any high resolution images, and it's much more difficult to understand the appeal of his work without seeing it in full...)
Joy Ang
YES! That guy is rad... enough so that I spent $40+ on that "on the mic" t-shirt.
I don't know who did the art for Wind Waker, but I'm sure a little bit of its style got in me.
Did you know that he's totally self taught?
Brian Froud -
I have a book of his here with some of the most amazing art that just isn't available on the 'net. He did the art design for Jim Henson's films Labyrinth and the Dark Crystal, and will also be doing the art for the sequel to Dark Crystal.
Lastly, Michael Whelan -
That's enough Whelan, I think... everyone should know who he is, he painted the covers of so many fantasy books, and did the art for Meatloaf's Bat Out Of Hell albums.
Nothing's forgotten, nothing is ever forgotten
Now, my main area of interest in terms of art is comic book art (not that I don't appreciate all kinds of art, mind you), since that is the career that I would like to pursue (long way to go, but I'm allowed to dream). So most of my favorite artists fall into that genre (though not all). Again, it's not that I don't look at or appreciate other genres of art...but these are the guys who's names I actually know. :P
