    okay, a few things.

    1) can't get SP2, this is due to boot camp but it isn't a deal breaker.
    2) I have no sound in XP. I don't know why.
    3) The mouse doesn't work when I load up EQ.
    4) I don't see a list of servers on the server screen.

I haven't done my re-install yet, so I can't help you out. I'll get it started when I get home from work, but I don't know how long the patching will take.

I don't think I've ever seen it like that though.

~2 hours to download the trilogy install file.
    ~1.5 hours to patch.

The only server on my selection screen was Erollsi Marr.

I don't know if that's based on registered expansions or what.

Hey everyone, I resubscribed because of a friend of mine about a week ago, and the night before last I bought the pack that has every expansion in it (I know I'm a whore, but it was only $20). I just wanted to say that while I don't want to start any new characters, if anyone wants to play with me I have a level 52 druid named Muvil and a level 7 shaman named Thubdub on The Rathe server if anyone wants to play with me. I'd really like some company, as so far I've just been soloing and revisiting all the old zones (which are nearly empty of other people).

Before leaving this morning I tried installing Luclin partially to see if that opened up any more servers, and partially for the "new" models (That deathfist pawn in freeport looked pretty cool, why shouldn't I?). I installed through disc, but was met with a similar error when trying to connect to the patcher. Sadly they didn't seem to want to give me anything past the trilogy for free download.

From what I can gather after searching through 3 year old threads on the sony eq boards, the only server available to trilogy trial installs is E. Marr.

Once I subscribed for a month though it opened up all of the servers. Now if I could just figure out how to enable SoL.

Edit: Hmmm....the models are there now even though it didn't tell me the luclin expansion was enabled. Enh, whatever. I got what I want.

Edit 2: Just so I'm not going to be guilty of a triple post....

We need to decide exactly how we want to play this. Zone-wise, only classic or classic / kunark? What about with gear?

I was poking around the tutorial and within 5 minutes they gave me some charm that was 10hp / mana 5 str/stm/agi/dex. That was pretty close to old world planes quality, wasn't it? I imagine any other rewards or drops in there will be of similar quality which diminishes the effect of collecting banded and bronze armor for example. Same thing with those newbie armor quests. Thoughts on those? Or do we want to play classic armor, but "cheat" on the weapons so we can progress a little quicker since we won't be logging a ton of hours?

I'm suggesting we label The Rathe (Karana) our server for now. And figure out race / class combinations next once we figure out exactly who's in.

the rathe sounds great to me, i even saw that a few people i used to know STILL play there...there's one guy i think would enjoy doing this with us once or twice a week as long as he has an open slot so i may ask him next time i see him

i'd rather play classic and kunark...i think that'd give us the most enjoyable time playing but i don't have any problems if people just want pure classic

as for armor and weapons....i think it'll be pretty difficult to recreate the experience exactly with the same armor and weapons, i don't mind cheating on those...it'd make things go a lot quicker anyways because like you said we won't be playing all that much..

I miss EQ sometimes .... soooo many good memories hehe

65 Barb Shaman from Zebuxoruk (now merged with Xegony) here =)

I joined when kunark came out. I think I was one of only a few Shaman who could walk into cabal (sp?) without fear (raising iksar faction was a bitch). Ahhh memories.

edit: and to the above guy, I'd say that Classic, Kunark, and Velious is the way to go.

Sweet. The Rathe (Karana) it is then.

Beast, go ahead and ask him if he's interested. I don't want to blow anyone off, but I haven't heard from a couple of the guys that originally were interested, so I don't know that they still are. Same with Darkmathus, although I'm wondering if there are just issues getting started since he had a blank server screen. I'll leave him penciled in for now though.

And just so there's no confusion, anyone that's posted recently, if you want to do this either PM me or reply with something like "I'm in" so I know. Thanks. :)

    So, more thoughts.

Original / Kunark sounds great (I imagine Velious will be added once we hit ~35 assuming we get that far).

As much as I may want to "enjoy" the banded / bronze / polished granite tomahawk progression again, you're right. It's going to be really difficult to do that, so we might as well run through the tutorial picking up whatever along the way as well as doing the newbie quests. That should all be soloable, or we can plan that as our first night and breeze through it. Either way would work with me just so long as we're all on the same page. If we go solo, we can meet up in say West Freeport around level 8 or 9 once we're got the newbie armor and go from there. I think my first groups were orc camps in the east commonlands around then, but whatever.

What about the bazaar? I mean, besides obviously not being in Kunark / Velious, it may be necessary seeing as we're only one group (self sufficiency might be a problem, but we can see) and there's no more EC auction spam. *If* we allow the bazaar, we should limit it to old world purchases only, assuming there are even any for sale anymore.

Ignoring classes for now - what do we think about races since we will be doing the old world where faction (more or less) actually mattered. Do we want to do whatever, or try to match alignments? Starting continent doesn't matter. Upon exiting the tutorial you're plunked down in the Plane of Tranquility, so from there we'll just go find whichever stone we want to start from and head out.

So now, classes. What's everyone's preference? I think I could play anything besides the cleric. I raided as a priest in WoW, and while enjoyable, I'm ready for something else.

Does Monday and / or Tuesday evening work for a gathering? Later in the week? It sounds like weeknights were preferable, so if so, let's nail down a time. (for anyone new that may have missed it, I'm west coast, beast is east coast, so we have the time difference to deal with while figuring this out).

I played on the Progression servers when they came out, up until Velious. Just thought I'd mention that even on Progression (which was supposed to be a classic sort of server), a lot of the new world zone revamps are still in, and a lot of items that were balanced to current standards were way overpowered for their time. Also zone EXP modifiers are in effect.

For example, Freeport sewers has some very overpowered items for low levels. There's also Jaggedpine Forest.

alright, sounds good to me, i'll see if he's around tonight....i'm almost even considering playing the new content too when we aren't just playing the old, since it sounds like it's cheap to get everything bundled together

i say just do the tutorial stuff and get what we can there, might as well, and probably should just do all that before we group up at all

races, would be NICE if everybody was similar just to make it easier on us but if everybody does their training/selling/buying outside of group time then it should be alright i guess to be different.....doesn't really matter to me there....bazaar is probably a necessity since we have no EC auctioning, if we want to limit it to old world stuff that's fine...or if we don't want to limit it that's fine too...i'm not sure that having better gear will significantly change the enjoyment of the old world content

i don't care what i am, i've mainly played bard/warrior/necro so something like cleric or enchanter or wizard is great with me, whatever we need to fill things in

monday/tuesday is fine with me, either one or both, haha

for me this is moreso playing the old world content together than anything else, so as long as a person doesn't outlevel us and doesn't completly twink their character it's cool...if they can buy it and want it then why not, you know? just my thoughts

Exactly. That's the biggest part for me.

The only reason I was hesitant about gearing up based on recent expansions, was that I thought it would negate the point of certain dungeon crawls. If you buy some junk weapon from the 10th expansion on the cheap at level 15 and it's better than 98% of the drops in Classic / Kunark, there's not really much point to go to location X and hope for weapon Y to drop (I'm making up these numbers, I may very well be wrong). I guess though (well I have no idea what the economy will be like) we won't be buying everything starting plat gathering from scratch. That's not a huge deal. The part I limed is more important to me.

Solo tutorial sounds good. We could probably get through most / all of the newbie armor quests solo too. On that Ranger I was talking about I think I wrapped them up around level 9 or 10. This would be a good time to meet up. I'm eager to get started now, but I kind of want to wait to see if anyone else has any specific classes in mind. I'll have to start updating the OP with info as we figure it out too.

NO! The mouse works in Escape to Norrath so I made a guy, but I can't log in. I hit the login button, it sits for a bit then says "fuck you, dude!". There is another executable, Everquest, but that is the one where the mouse doesn't work and I can't see a list of servers or make a dude or anything its fucking lame i hate this game.

edit: okay so I don't hate it but I know if i call up customer service they'll say "PC EQ on mac? That's unpossible!" then when I explain boot camp they'll say to call Apple. Since this is on boot camp I'm not sure what to expect, but while I was searching through threads trying to figure out why I was only seeing one server up, I came across a thread that mentioned no servers were visible and the reply said Internet Explorer had to be installed due to some relation with the server select screen.

Unless I misread and it was about server status...

Might be worth a try if it's not already installed.

I had a moment when my mouse didn't work either. I tried to alt+enter to go into full screen mode. FSM didn't stick and then on the menus before the character selection screen I had to tab between buttons to exit the program. It worked once I restarted though.

Are you running the free trial month that came up with the trilogy download? It's not exactly what I had since I had E. Marr show up as my only server option, but I wonder if it might be linked. Up to you if you want to try a quick $15 solution though. I was hesitant until I found a thread that told me the trial was the reason I only saw one server.

I'd try searching the sony station eq boards for answers. The threads may be 3-4 years old, but it seems like they're still useful. As for getting the PC version to run on the mac though, I don't know what to expect.

I heard sometime after WoW came out they made the exp game much faster (IE no hell levels, and grinds weren't near as bad, as say my ranger, something like 10,000 lion kills to go from lvl 20 to 21 in East Karana) as well as making the downtime way easier on all classes. Is any of this true? if so I may give it a shot, if it's still just as much of a pita to level, then I probably won't.

From what I remember my four favorite classes were in no particular order:
Bard, Shadowknight, Shaman, Rogue Although I got a little tired of my rogue after about 52 I think, I still loved soloing dragons with my shaman, even though he just plain and simple got too powerful for it (I quit at GoD, and wasn't super POP equipped at all, but it was still enough to kick the shit out of WW dragons) and my shadowknight was a badass tank, except his nub stats were fucked up so I was always trying to keep my agi above 75, and my int up to use spells.

I basically had a night to kill tonight so I made a warrior and played around in the tutorial zone. About 3 hours later I was level 8. I can't remember as it's been almost a decade since my first character, but I'm pretty sure that was quite a bit faster. Sure it was only to level 8, but it's possibly setting the stage for the rest of the levels to not be as intense as before. Especially if we end up buying some expansion weapons from the bazaar. Those 8 levels only took as long as they did because I was using a 4/27 weapon. There was virtually no downtime.

I don't know that this is the guy I'm going to play for the group though.

So I finished up the newbie quests on the warrior. It's kind of sick now, my sword is 10/29 I think? I can solo a white *and* a yellow con at the same time. And I still don't have a shield, although I do get dual wield in 3 levels, so enh, not a big deal (although I am curious if I can find anything in the bazaar for ~10 plat). I noticed the newbie armor still isn't as good as Crafted (for the warrior at least) so that's kind of exciting.

I think for the group I'm going to stick with the warrior unless someone that wants to join is dead set on playing one.

Joerk - 10 Barbarian Warrior, all geared up and ready for the group! :D

And don't worry Shadowfire, we're not planning on playing too much. Maybe once or twice a week.

We're going to have to use the bazaar. There's no more EC auction spam and actually, no more EC. East and West have been merged into just "The commonlands". As such, even though we're sticking to old world the bazaar is going to be a necessity. For now though, if you can help it, stick to purchasing old world or kunark items - we may change this later though (I don't even know if that's possible, I've yet to check the bazaar out but I'll probably poke around a bit tomorrow).

Edit - yeah, no kidding. We killed the Pit Field in the tutorial a little bit ago and it dropped a +10% haste range slot item. I lost the roll though. :(

EQ on a Mac via Bootcamp

This might help with the EQ/Mac problems.

I played EQ for years, right up to roughly 6 months ago. Still have an active account so I'm tempted to make a character and try this. A regular group can be some great fun in this game.

I'm thinking of making a bard. That's what my main was (DRo server), and I'm missing that dynamic in WoW (and every other MMORPG I've tried).

For tanks I think pal and sk are better in groups, but war is fine too.

Add a healer and a DPS class and you've got yourself a group.

Limiting yourself to the original trilogy you miss out on some great zones. The Serpent's Spine expansion has a set of quests for a nice charm and an augment to go with it, for example.
