I could re-roll as a cleric if we want. Then we'd just need a tank, if grundle wouldn't mind that role. Might not be a bad idea actually. Assuming I keep up both groups, then I'd be playing two tanks so the healer might be a nice change of pace.
i have no problem rerolling my enchanter as a cleric if that's what's needed...currently i have an enchanter though, but anything that's needed let me know and i'm up for it....i'm ready for tuesday evening if that's when we want to start
Let's see what Grundle wants to do. I feel like we should have a cleric, but maybe it won't be necessary. Rangers can tank if they're geared for it. My ranger tanked PoJ better than some warriors at 52. We might be able to get Kanneth to tank and do well enough with a cleric and a shaman around.
I know the bard can cc alright, but I'd kind of like to keep the enchanter around for that and buffs as well. Or is that too much overlap with the shaman and bard? I don't really remember enough of those details well enough to say.
Having shm, enc, and brd in a group is a bit of overlap. With another healer around the shm will probably wind up feeling a bit redundant.
Brd can generally CC well between lull pulling and their limited mezzing. Even before Fading Memories a bard is the best puller around, IMO. They run into a wall later on when you start xping on mobs above their mez cap, though that's at level 69+ and I doubt we'll be getting that high.
If Beast really doesn't mind rolling a clr, I think that would give us a really strong group...
SK
Brd
Shm
Clr
Rng
Mag/Rog/Wiz
That would be a hell of a group. I just hate asking people to play clr though because it can be boring. Unless you have a pulling cleric. When I was 2-boxing an sk and clr I would pull with the Clr
Got my bard to level 10 and finished all the tutorial quests, so I'm ready to rock on Tuesday, patch permitting. I found that the kobold shaman in the tutorial always drop a staff that sells for over 3 plat, so I'm thinking I might farm that a bit. Also, a twink I grouped with dropped some gear on me so I have a nice mace I could give to our tank.
I'm going to play around on EtN and see what I like. I tanked in WoW for 2 years, my understanding is that tanking in EQ was a lot less interactive. Nonetheless, I'll give it a look. Is warrior the only tanking class, or are any others viable?

Warriors are the best raid tanks, but for single group content a Shadowknight or Paladin does just as well. Rangers can even tank in certain situations and gear/AA levels.
I'm so glad I resub'd to WoW before seeing this thread, otherwise I'd be right there with you guys.

i see you were thinking of rogue or magician on the last page, if you want to do either of those it's fine with me, i can roll a warrior and we'll be good
Warrior tank might be a little dull. It's basically auto attack while clicking taunt, kick, and I think disarm every 6-8 seconds. There are no abilities like hamstring or thunderclap.
I used to tank as a shadowknight though and loved it. It was the same thing (minus kick, but plus bash because I'd tank with a shield) but then you had to know which spells to use to create more hate and supplement the damage.
I almost made a shadowknight for this group, but then I figured I should try something different. I made the warrior first just to make sure we had a tank, but I didn't expect everyone else to shy away from it.
WoW warriors are certainly more fun with their various skills. Later on once they get their disciplines, EQ warriors do gain a measure of that type of gameplay.
Where tanking really differs from wow is the positioning game. Because of push (melee attacks "push" the mob slightly, so you can wind up pushing a mob off a cliff or into more mobs if you're not careful) and riposte, it becomes important for the tank to position the mob correctly. Granted my WoW warrior is only level 30 but I've never really found positioning to be important (never grouped with a rogue, though).
Monk tanking is tough because they lack in agro tools. I've done groups with a monk tank but it's not optimal.

Not really thread-related, but warrior tanking in the end game was extremely reliant on positioning. Screwing that one up could roast your raid
The Fires of Heavens guys (or some of them anyway) are trying to do the same thing we're doing and looking to be a lot more successful. It's a once or twice a week level together deal same as what I was proposing. I know these guys used to be known for power gaming (still?) but that's not what this is about. The rules are a little more strict, but a lot of it's common sense stuff.
It sounds like they're not having the problem we're having, which is getting numbers together to start. I'm going to roll up a character for their first meeting this Sunday the 23rd at 5pm est and meet them in North Qeynos outside the front gates. If you can't make that and wish to join up, you can solo to the level cap and come along the next time.
Hell, if it goes well maybe we can still do our thing for a little bit here and there in addition to this. Anyway, I think it's worth checking out at least.
Just to make sure new posters saw this. I'll be trying both our group and this if possible.
Did anyone roll an evil race? I made the cleric a dark elf without really thinking about it, but if I'm the only one I may change that so I'm not causing issues with travel for us.
my warrior isn't evil, but i do have a dark elf SK that's been on my account forever that's only level 12....so i may end tanking with him if the warrior bores me...haha
I don't think the evil/good race thing matters much anymore.
Oh wait, evil and good had separate factions for the Dragons of Norrath expansion, but that's like level 55+ content.
Raising casting skills on a newbie is so painful. They really should revamp the skill raises for low levels. I can imagine new players giving up in frustration after fizzling an entire mana bar.
Might as well leave it then. I know it doesn't matter much, but it mattered more in the old content than anywhere, so since that's what we're doing I didn't want to cause us any issues if it's just me.
my warrior is level 6 and he's FINALLY at least able to hit things MOST of the time....before this it was just terrible missing like 5 straight and then finally connecting..only to miss 5 more times..ha
Before the level 1 bats and rats go grey, I like to round up 3 or 4 of them and let them hit me for awhile to max out defense skill. At level 5 I think they are still blue and won't do much damage to you. Helps casters, especially, so they won't be in a huge hole later on defense-wise.
That is why in hitsmode I block misses. Makes it less depressing.
hahaha...except that you watch the dude swinging his little heart out and nothing ever shows up on the screen....makes me sad to watch him working so hard and getting nowhere
I could not stand the way my ogre looked so I rerolled as a Vah Shir shaman. The name is Golbaz you can add him to the list. I am currently working through the tutorial and will be level 10 before the servers get taken down.
With the FoH group we've been grouped since level 3 to make things go faster. It was insanely slow before.
I'm currently decked out in ruined gnoll chain from blackburrow. So leet!
I had a lot of fun with the FoH guys. Who were you Tal? I was still Darmak so I would be pretty easy to recognize.
edit: also, I rolled a cleric and holy shit. Whoever said playing cleric is boring is wrong. I was working my ass off to try and keep 5 other guys alive in Black Burrow after some dumbfuck twinked monk kept running trains on us. I like my new cleric.
I was on Einar. And I'm starting to regret the Human SK in the fact that navigating the damn catacombs is a pain in the ass :P I still can't find my way back to the guildmaster.
I saw your name a bit - were you the erudite? That monk screwed us up a couple times too while we were deep in there. That was a lot of fun though. Crushbone next time is going to be a blast.

Yeah, I was the erudite cleric. And I'm really excited about Crushbone, it used to be one of my favorite places to hunt.
so if your limited to old world contant up to velios, mayhaps the gnoll dungean in erud near the evil erudite
home. its got alot of low lvl gear kinda like iorn with quite a few named running around and other types of equipment, I think its based around lvl 10 or so kinda like crushbone.

Warrens is ok but it's kind of a deathtrap due to tons of roamers.
The standard newbie dungeons these days are Kurn's Tower and Paludal Caverns. Both have excessively large exp modifiers and easy mobs so you level fast. PC is a Luclin zone, though.
I felt rich with my 165 plat from farming staves in the tutorial, but going to the Bazaar was a humbling experience. They didn't even have my old standby for newbie gear, the Orc Fang Earring

Grundel are you in EtN now? I made a druid named Jusforj.
Watching the early football game, I'll be on there around 4pm EST.
Just to make sure new posters saw this. I'll be trying both our group and this if possible.
Okay. I may not be able play at that time. If not then I'll hopefully catch you on tuesday
