Guitar Hero III coming to PC and Mac

September 11, 2007 - PC owners have one more reason to be happy this morning as Aspyr Media announced that PC and Mac versions of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock will be coming out this fall. Developed and published exclusively by Aspyr, the new game will feature the same great gameplay and content that the series is already known for -- more than 70 great songs, plenty of unlockable content, and a head-to-head multiplayer mode. Additionally, Guitar Hero III will include new boss battles to really test your (heavy) mettle and a new option to play online against other PC gamers.

Ted Staloch, Aspyr's executive vice president of publishing, promises to "deliver a game that wails just as hard as it does on consoles but feels natural on this audience's chosen platform." We're not sure just what this "natural feeling" is, but we're very excited about the wailing hard part.

According to Red Octane's head of publishing Dusty Welch, the brand's creators see this as "a great opportunity to help promote musicianship and expand the number of Guitar Hero fans worldwide." Though Welch was reportedly thrilled at the prospect of rocking out on a laptop, there has been no word yet on system requirements or peripheral support.

We'll be bringing you even more information on the PC (but not Mac) version of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock in the coming weeks.

Now this is interesting with paying for additional content and the modding scene I'm wondering how sales of this will work out.

Well, periphial support is a bit of a no brainer since you can hook up the 360 GH guitar via USB and it's recognised properly in windows.

Both Spore and Guitar Hero coming to Mac? Now I don't have to listen to people who tell me that I won't be able to get any games on my system, as those two could be all I ever need.

Edit: The PC recognises the guitar? Can you do regular stuff with it as a peripheral?

What kinda regular stuff with it? I know you can play Frets on Fire with it (and about 5 mins later you realise why FoF is shit)

Do the buttons correspond to mouse clicks or anything? Would you be able to play pinball with it?

I imagine Joy2Key would work for this.

No kidding. If it becomes popular enough, practically every Metallica, AC / DC, and Guns N' Roses song is going to have button routines made for it.

yeah, the idea of bringing my laptop w/guitar around with me makes me VERY excited.

just another reason to buy that shiny macbook I've been eyeing.

Harmonix, once again delivering the fans exactly what they want. Kudos!

    Hacks, hacks.

    Truth.

Check Youtube for the number of hacked Guitar Hero songs. That's for a console game. Just wait for the PC community.

This is an open invite for various illegal modding activities, which incidentally, make me very, very happy.

You know, I bought a PS2 soley for Guitar Hero II. I'm a big PC kind of guy. My friends and I agreed that Guitar Hero probably wouldn't appear on the PC so I went to go buy a ps2 and Guitar Hero II as well as 1, and I was pleased to know that Guitar Hero III and Rock Band will work on the PS2.

Then they pull this shit. Heaven forbid on the PC, but the fucking Mac too? Shit, why don't we throw a Linux version in there for good measure.

I'm now fucking divided in this, I could get the regular PS2 version, but the PC version is going to be so EASY to get custom songs in there. I won't have to go through all that bullshit I have to go through on the PS2 version.

Its settled, I'll buy the PC version and just use a PS2 to USB adapter.

Are you actually complaining that it's available on more platforms?

Well I see his point. What if I bought a PS3 soley for Socom 3 or something. Then after I make that huge investment for a game I really want but really don't plan on buying any other games for.. it comes out for PC - which I may even appreciate more with KBAM support or something.

Option A) Buy more games for the system

Relization 2: Don't buy systems for one game

    The PS3 is 500 dollars.

The PS2 is like 125 dolars (I don't know I live in Australia)

If you bought a PS3 soley for SOCOM then yes you are an idiot.
