I dunno. I mean, it sounds cool, but I'm skeptical. The graphics on the Wii version are probably going to suck ass-balls.

I'm hoping this is just a quick 'n dirty way to appease that want a Wii lightsaber game until they get the actual Wii Lightsaber game up and running. If not, well, suicide's always an option.

Or murder, now that I think about it.

Guaranteed it'll be a direct port of the PS2 with no upgrades to graphics and poorly tacked on controls.

And I don't WANT 1:1 controls really. A few gestures easily recognised would be fine with me.

I concur. A sword game of any type would be perfectly well served with a downward swipe of a couple of centimeters equating to an over head downward slash with a sword and similarly small horizontal and diagonal swipes equating to appropriately enhanced sword movements. Twisting the controller and holding it high or low would provide appropriate blocking motions. You don't need to be standing in a 5 meter empty space swinging a remote control around wildly to enjoy a sword fighting game, it's just be nice to have subtle but appropriately contextual gestures equate to something grander on screen.

However, I don't have much faith in anything relating to Lucas turning into a good game either way. I'm sure that when they first heard about the Wii their reaction was very similar to many gamers except their hopes for a lightsaber game were accompanied by the realisation they could fob it off on a third party developer, port it from another console and still sell bucket-loads.

What I want to know is why does it have to be star wars to be a lightsaber game? Why hasn't some developer capable of making good games just decided to make a lightsaber game only call it something else? It's not as if Lucas has a monopoly of swords made of some highly improbable focused energy.

Because then it'd be a light saber ripoff.

Anyway, this is going to suck. My expectations of a Wii light saber game are so high no developer is ever going to meet that level, let alone some shitty b-list studio.

I think they should just leave it alone unless it can actually do something that would surprise the hell out of everyone, which means either be surprisingly good or do something unexpected that works (though I have no idea what).

I predict this to be a failure of Wii Spider-Man 3 proportions.

The game you are looking for is No More Heroes.

But I still want to be a Jedi god damnit.

Has anyone here played "Die by the sword" from Treyarch? That was the most control over a sword arm I've seen in a game. Could control arm, elbow, waist legs to work together for the best swing, or just use a mouse to sweep out your swings and it'd match, instead of predetermined actions provided by the developer.

THAT'S the name of the game I was trying to think of.

    It was awful.

But the swordfighting was different at least!

Oh yeah, the game was bad no question, but the gameplay was fun once you got past the steep learning curve!

Why is Force Unleashed gonna suck again? I just know it's a Jedi game, so it's already on my want list, but I haven't actually looked at it much.

It probably isn't going to suck, with the amount of effort they're pouring into it - I still have faith in it at least. The Wii, version, however, is a bit uncertain, since, well, ports and all.

No indications that Force Unleashed is going to suck. Little indication that it'll be good either. But given that this started off for Xbox360 and is supposed to be based around "Kicking someone's ass with the force" (Developer mantra, chanted at the start of meetings, they mentioned this in one of their interviews on gametrailers IIRC). That much stuff going on probably won't scale too hot to a Wii, it'll probably be a bit different, like Crysis for PC will be different from the Xbox360 version. However, as this Wii version is just being pawned off to another developer, that's why the predictions are bleak.

As for the game itself, it's Lucasarts and their track record has been...hit or miss. But the concept has potential. They took inspiration from Clone Wars and that was /freaking awesome/, so their hearts are in the right place, just need to see if they have the chops to make it happen.
