EDIT: Read bottom of thread for an update.

Just a quick question I want to ask here since I don't personally know anybody with a repaired xbox.
After receiving your repaired xbox, shouldn't the OEM sticker that's under the faceplate be intact?
.. and not like this.
I ask because I bought this thing on e-bay. Here are the related events during the last month in point form:
- There was clear physical damage not described in the auction although it did say that it had been to MS to be repaired.
- Got unit and it red-ringed 3-weeks in.
- Tried to get money back.
- Guy was a dick, had to go through paypal, guy said that *I* was probably the one tampering with the unit.
- Guy was a dick AND stupid, escalated the paypal dispute I started to a claim himself, and then never responded thus ensuring me a default victory.
- Paypal recovers $200 from him, still owed $150.
- Guy is a dick again, refuses to return me $150 until I ship everything back.
The current situation is me putting my foot down and saying that I'm not sending anything back until I get the $150, either that or he keeps the $150 and only gets his busted xbox back.

EDIT: fixed for completeness and grammar.
Do not feel trapped by the need to achieve anything, this way you achieve everything.

edit: mine doesn't have those gashes either, it's obviously been tampered with.
Yeah, I gathered as much. Thanks!

If you plan on keeping it the RROD is usually fixable with a little work. It's a "major" issue but the cause is pretty simplistic and totals less than $20 worth of parts + some effort (unless you need to buy the tools).
Provided that is the only thing wrong with it (and not a screwed mod install or something) and you don't mind the gash you can certainly fix it.
I'm guessing this guy probably RROD and either towel tricked it after opening it and not wanting to bother, or did a half assed repair job for the problem then decided to sell it to get a new one.

I think he probably tried to do a mod himself, busted his xbox, sent it to MS who obviously refused to repair it, and he managed to get it somewhat working himself.
Should I forward the email to PayPal/Ebay or something like that? I'm concerned he's going to get it back and try and screw somebody else on Ebay.

Yes, you should. Forward that e-mail to whomever you can at Ebay... for one thing, the RRoD fix is so simple, only an idiot could screw it up, for another, this guy clearly deserves to have his ebay account banned. Everyone knows the moment you open any electronical device it immediatly voids the warrenty. That's information any buyer has the right to know, and a seller has the duty to inform.
If it stands where it is now (you only $150 out and with the RROD 360) you might as well just keep it and fix it yourself if it's going to be a hassle to get everything returned.
But best bet is to just make sure you get your money back and return it. If you want to save some serious cash with a box you have to repair yourself, at least find a seller who is upfront about it.
