So as few may remember, I had a guilty pleasure with pumpkins around this time of year. Of course, along with this is a love to carve pumpkins into nerdy designs. Last year I carved a Mario pumpkin along with a Jack Skelington.
I thought it might be fun to show the nerdy pumpkin carvings you have done this Halloween.
Also, it would be great if we were to post links or images of patterns to recreate some we see on here. I'll kick this off by linking my Mario pumpkin:

I've never been a big carver, but I am artistically inclined, and carved a nice monster face for my girlfriend last year. I'll be doing so again this year with a big ol' punkin' carvin' session with her and her nephews. Haven't decided what I'm going to do though. I wish I had a photo of the one I did last year handy, but alas...
Anyway, I'll try to contribute mine next weekend after I actually do it.
Well, I just finished hollowing out my pumpkin for this year. 48lbs to start, 41lbs after cleaning. Still trying to decide what to do with it; I've never done a scrape, so maybe I'll try that this year.
At work today, I cleaned and carved a little 5" pumpkin with the company logo on it, using only a pocket knife, plastic spoon, and 3 pushpins.
I love Halloween, hehe. Here's my last few pumpkins:
Simple cat, not much to say.
Last year. The pupils and teeth are actually carved out and fully shaped, which I was rather proud of.
I am probably not going to carve a pumpkin this year, but one of my friends said that she would carve my face into one, so I am excited to see how that turns out.
My sister and her boyfriend went up to Keene for their pumpkin festival this year. Up until a couple years ago they had the world record for most carved, lit pumpkins gathered together. It has tailed off, but it is still pretty big. If anyone is ever in Massachusetts/New Hampshire/Vermont near the end of September see if you can hit it up.
Their personal favorite this year was the pumpkin that said "JESUS" sitting next to pumpkin with a penis carved on it.
Don't suppose anyone knows of a good resource for patterns, guides for how to do scraping actually decently, and stuff like that? I've got pumpkins on the brain now, and intend to do something truly glorious.
Buy a pattern book (which is easier if you're just learning) and a basic set of carving utencils.
Cut a hole in the top of the punkin.
Scoop out the guts.
Tape your pattern to the punkin.
Poke little holes in the punkin to map out your pattern.
Remove pattern and connect the dots.
Now, you'll want to do little sections at a time. Use the mini-knife that comes with the pattern book (most do nowadays) for carving to slice out a small section of your pattern. Trace it, if you will. Once that is done, just stick the knife in a bit and start chipping away at the front of the punkin!
Once you have finished chiseling away at your pattern, you just have to do some fine tuning by evening out the areas you have chiseled into.
Remember, you don't want to go very deep when chipping out your pattern! Just get under the top layer a bit. You don't need to dig deep grooves or anything, just get rid of the dark outter skin.
Once it looks nice and neat, take a scraper (one of those little shovel things that comes with a carving set) and scrape the inside of your pumpink until it is pretty thin. You'll be able to tell how well light is filtering through your punkin by holding it up to the sun. It should glow brightly through the punkin in areas that are finished and less glowing in the areas that need more scraping!
Once you are finished, throw a candle in there and enjoy.
The thing about punkin scrapings is that you must cut a small hole somewhere in the back, so that your candle can get some air, or it will go out.
My fiance and I finished up some more good punkins this year and will show them off as soon as we can.
I did a really cool Headless Horseman scraping, while she carved some kind of a Goblin Thingy.
Maybe next year I will do a how-to picture guide to scraping for you guys. It should be fun.
Great, now I can't look at anything else cute today, having already exceeded my quota.
My attempted pattern this year. If I'd known about the Batman one I'd have done that, but stupid spookmaster is a subscription site. Seriously, subscriptions for pumpkin patterns? Sigh.
We had a quintuple carving last night, and my fingers are sore. Between being mildly allergic to gourds and melons, washing my hands so many times, and fingerdriving and pulling a finishing nail repeatly I can barely apply any pressure to two of my fingertips. On the plus side, we got some awesome punkins out of the deal. I'll post pictures of them when I get home. Beware. One contains profound mathematical truth.
I STILL have to carve mine. Combine extereme tiredness with lack of any creative ideas. I was going to do a scrape, but if you have to thin it out first, well... this pumpkin is like, 5" thick, so, not so much.
So....the first pictures of my pumpkin are tied up in a memory stick that is giving an error (Ugh) and we took more pictures on Halloween (The pumpkins endured an unusually hot day...so they were kinda droopy) ...but the camera went missing that night.
The wind kicked my pumpkin's ass. Like, it was really dry on Halloween day, and the wind was crazy strong. I got home to find out mine had shriveled up. Like, all my detail work had curled inside, and the mouth part had gotten flip upside down.
Oh well, It looked much like the Vader pattern was supposed to. We got a picture of my roommates awesome pumpkin if I can remember to get it off his camera tonight.

Anyway, I'll try to contribute mine next weekend after I actually do it.

By paint I mean white-out and sharpie, but I'm a poor college student so sue me.
I shall post pictures of the results.

Fucking ace. Same goes for the Hyrule seal.
That is really good for just white-out and a sharpie.
Please post the finished product of that. Perfect meatwad face.

Why thank you.
Perhaps some sort of death clock...

more what's in the pumpkin than anything else, but that's pretty cute :P
...That is the cutest damn thing ever.

Lit:
I still want to go through and clean up the lines a bit, but this was my first go at actually carving a pumpkin. It was harder than I anticipated.

No candles allowed. Notice the desklamp improv.
It came out a little blurry, but I think I captured his square head perfectly.:P
If you copy the image source like so, you can post it. Also people won't have to log into facebook.
Things are conspiring against me.
Argh.
