In the ways of student loans

To put it simply, I'm tired of being given the run-around by all of the banks when I try to get my questions answered. So, I'll give the short of my situation, and you guys tell me what you think.

Basically, I'm going to school in Canada, and I have various things I need to take care of in the states before I go (Passport, Study permit, fix my car, etc.) Now, I know it's possible to apply for a private loan, and have it sent to me as long as I and the school sends a letter to the lender saying they approve of the check being sent directly to me. Is the same possible for a Stafford loan? With my current salary, I fear I won't be able to take care of everything I need to in time unless that check gets sent to me directly. Any thoughts are appreciated.

In my experience, Stafford loans have to go through the university first. It is unlikely you will receive your disbursement in a timely fashion.

Ask your uni in Canada? Presumably they deal with this all the time and so have some idea of what's going on with it all...
