Do you dislike the movie, or the actor.

See, Diesel did a fine job playing the character while the movie was horrible. Are you trying to say that because he was in a bad movie, he is a bad actor?

No, I'm saying he's a bad actor. He also happens to be in bad movies.

What were some of his best performances? Riddick? His character has almost no dialogue.

He is in Saving Private Ryan, I will give you that, but every other movie that he is in I would consider not worth my time.

Bwahahaha. No dialogue? Are you kidding me? Past that.

Have you seen Knockaround Guys? Not the best gangster movie, but it is fair, though Diesel shines.

How about Find me Guilty? He plays an Italian mobster. Hilarious and awesome.

A Man Apart. Good solid movie. Good acting.

So we now have what...xXx and FatF. Not great movies, but the acting is fine.

I mean really...you're not giving me any reason to believe you have even seen more than 2 movies Diesel has been in.

I haven't seen knock around guys or find me guilty. Unless those are the holy grail of Vin Diesel movies I'm not retracting my statement.

Also, I meant to say Pitch Black, not Riddick. I wouldn't cite Riddick as good acting.

When he's type cast, and it seems like he is often, he plays a one dimensional hero type character in which his "performance" consists of fighting people and uttering predictable one liners.

He's playing a future mercenary here, I don't think the role calls for or will deliver any serious acting.

Had anyone else been cast in the role of Riddick, it wouldn't have been the same/as good. I think that says something.

Every role of every movie can be strengthened or hindered by the actor that portrays them.

first, a disclaimer: i am in no way saying this film will be as good as the one i'm about to reference here, so i ask not to be flogged for daring to mention it.
Secondly, while i'm aware the role wasn't that of a mercenary, but more a bounty hunter, you have seen Bladerunner, right?

I want more Chronicles movies. Supposedly they have scripts for a trilogy.

It's Conan in space, damnit! What's wrong with that?

Blade Runner is one of my favorite movies, I've also read the book. Philip K Dick is one of my favorite authors.

I could be wrong but I doubt this movie will even begin to approach the complexity of Blade Runner. Vin Diesel is a bad sign for me.

that's where i was careful not to say "it won't be the next Bladerunner" or something. But taking what i know about it; the story it's based on (which i now actually want to read, and certainly looks more deep than "some guy drove fast while things exploded behind him"), and the director (who is also writing, and wrote/directed the truly awesome La Haine), and that i reckon Vin Diesel can actually act when given a good role to act in (mercenary in a sci-fi setting? Sure. Shakespeare? Less so), i reckon the style of Bladerunner is what they should be shooting for, rather than something pulpy and throwaway.

One of Diesel's better roles was in Boiler Room, which I think was overlooked in this thread.

i've not seen it, but the fact that he's even in the film kinda goes against the sort of role he's expected to fill.

Someone should find that video of an extremely skinny, afro'd all to hell, Diesel performing in a "how to breakdance" video. He looked so bad.
