My father and I just finished putting together my custom computer with the following specs:
I'm a n00b to this building stuff, too, but I almost have all the parts I need. Here's what I went with

Case: CoolerMaster Centurion 534 (ATX, 5 5.25 external bays, 1 3.25 ext bay, comes with rear and side fan and a side air duct, 4 internal HD bays, and 7 expansion slots...I love it and it's cheap.)

PSU: CoolerMaster eXtreme 500W ATX (It was part of a combo deal with the case, I think it's pretty good.)

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 ATX Intel Motherboard (8GB RAM cap., the 7 expansion slots I need, 4 SATA slots + 1 PATA)

Memory: 2 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix 240-pin DDR2 800 SDRAM Dual Channel Kit (I think its good, and I got in under the gun on the rebate)

GPU: HIS Hightech Raedon X1650PRO 512MB 128-bit interface, GDDR2 PCI-Express x16 (I don't think I skimped too much on a graphics card. I'm fairly sure its good for what I want it to do (play TF2, and other games eventually)

And my dad was nice enough to gift me a Western Digital Caviar 320GB HDD 7200RPM that he bought and then realized too late that it was SATA and his computer wasn't compatible.

All I have left to pick up is the CPU and disc drive.

I plan on picking this

I have the CPU in there and everything. Card's in there. No chance to get OS in there yet. But the monitor is not getting a proper video signal. There's no onboard video to my mobo...so...what am I supposed to do?

The computer turns on properly and without any beeping sounds...but nothing comes up on screen.

There's a few more tests you should do before you'll get any meaningful answers here.

1- Does the monitor work when plugged into a different computer?
2- Do you have another monitor you can try on this computer in case your original monitor isn't working properly?
3- Is the monitor on? Are you 100% sure it's plugged into a power outlet? Have you tried other outlets?
4- Do you have another monitor cable you can try? (it's possible that your monitor cable can't be unplugged from the monitor. In this case, at least check to make sure none of the pins on the video connector are damaged.
5- See if you can't find a different video card to temporarily use in that machine and see if your video card might be the problem.
6- You didn't say anything about the monitor. What kind is it? (CRT or LCD? what size? brand?)

Answering as many of those questions as possible will likely help you to fix it yourself, and if not, it should provide others here with enough info to help you out.

My dad took it to work to a friend that has mad skillz and its fixed. This thread can be locked, or expanded upon to ask for help with my installing of XP. I had the install part 1 done, rebooted, and now my HDD is giving me a disc read error. Why would this happen?

And now the OS problem resolves itself with a re-install. So, since the shareef don't like it...

    Lock the threadbah
