Hey everyone,
I've been a follower of Penny Arcade and an avid gamer (mainly MMO's from UO to EQ to SB (:x) to WoW) for several years now, but this is the first time I've posted on these forums. The reason I do so now (other than the generaly cathartic feeling I get from posting on issues that nip at my soul) is because I wanted to see what this community thought of an issue currently making ripples in parts of California and New York.
Namely, the Writer's Guild of America (WGA) strike.
Admittedly, it isn't something that's been making many massive headlines outside of the Entertainment News, but it does effect those who still (on occasion) pay homage to that most ancient of traditions of using their television for viewing shows and/or movies. And (depending on how long the strike lasts) will have a noticeable effect on what's in the theaters during the latter half of 2008.
Also, part of the reason I bring it up on these forums in particular is that a lot of what the WGA is striking about has to do with the Interweb and it's many tubes. And, since (aside from the purveyors and purchasers of pornography) Gamers tend to be the leading edge of using, interacting, and developing the Webernet, I thought it'd be interesting to see if there was any awareness and/or interest in what's going down in Tinsel Town.
Anyhow, the following is the clearast explanation of why the WGA is striking I've seen so far (parsed in convinient YouTube form). I hope you all at least find it intersting.
