Defrag Error

It's that time again, the drive is filling up and slowing down. However, I get this error message when I try to run it.

Microsoft Management Console
"MMC cannot open the file C:\windows\system32\dfrg.msc.

This may be because the file does not exist, is not an MMC console, or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also be because you do not have sufficient rights to access the file."

I've defragged on here several times without this happening, I don't know why it would stop now.

I looked there and the file exists, and hasn't been modified since 2004.

Run->Defrag gives a Dos window for a split second but it closes too fast to read.

    This looks like it's working.

    Yeah, it is.

14% fragmented, so it was getting pretty bad. Thanks for the help.

I miss my pretty GUI though. Is there any way to fix that problem?

I think you have to re-register the associated DLLs.

If you're using XP Pro, you could also try building a new defrag MMC.

    Start>Run "mmc.exe"

File>Add/Remove Snap-in>Add "Disk Defragmenter", Close, then OK, and the deframenter snapin should be usable.

This works, thanks. A weird problem overall.
