WiiFit: Why Spend $3.19 On A Hula Hoop When You Can Get Wii Fit For $89? - OUT TODAY
Why was there such a big argument about if this thing will help people lose weight? Obviously if someone's already working out daily, I doubt this will help very much. But for those people who don't do much of anything at all, anything is better than nothing. Seriously, 20 minutes a day on this thing is likely to burn at least a FEW calories, leading to losing weight. But... I digress. This is the interweb, everyone has to argue about anything and everything.
Anyone who weighs over 300lbs should be less concerned with playing wiifit and more concerned with their imminent death.
300 is kind of an early weight to be assigning imminent death to. Unless you're short and are meant to be built light.
I think the entire island of Samoa is at least 300 and not close to dying.
Yes the outlier of a race of people known for being spectacularly massive completely disproves my utterly objectively correct point.
300lb is also pretty fucking massive even for a samoan.
actually samoans are genetically predisposed to being larger since they were intially a seafaring nation and the extra size meant increased chance of survival on the ocean. They were never really that huge until they got western diets which made them increasingly unhealthy and predisposed to diabetes etc.
I'm not meaning to be a dick. I am fat, so any namecalling is including myself here. (6-1 255lbs) My issue is just that I like eating too much and don't like exercising. My bad arthritis excludes me from most exercise routines, but I could still exercise on things like stationary bikes or swimming, so there is no excuse other than me==lazy.
I won't be able to play this game because my doctors don't even want me standing for more than 10 minutes at a time due to not having any cartilage in my knees, hips, parts of my spine.
Just FYI, my favorite euphamisms for disabled are "The conveniently parked", "The Unnerving", and "Prey"
Anyway, I am all for these mild exercise games. Heck, even rockband is making my shoulders and one leg more fit, lol.
I am hoping someone makes an affordable, FUN game to play that works like a recumbant bike. I would like to buy one, but in Orlando I would only want to ride it 5 months out of the year, if that. Plus there are so few sidewalks here and Orlando nearly leads the country in vehicle related pedestrian deaths (non motorized vehicles included in the study I read).
Something like Mount and Blade where my pedaling controls the horse movement and the wii-mote controls a lance. Man that would be fun. And it might even qualify as exorcise I can do.
People detracting the fitness aspects of Wii Fit probably also probably understate the long term benefits of yoga. I'm hardly an expert so I'll let someone else extol its virtues, but I will comment that the low impact exercises of yoga can have amazing long term effects if practiced correctly.
That's where Wii Fit and the Wii Balance Board comes in. I've posted this elsewhere (maybe even earlier in this thread), but the benefit of the BB is that it can judge how correctly you're doing an exercise. To get the most out of a lot of yoga moves, you need to have your weight in the proper place, which is exactly what the BB measures. You can practice all the yoga you want at home using books, DVDs or the internet as your guide, but if you're not doing it correctly, you'll have nobody there to point it out to you. You can hire a trainer to teach you, but that's a lot more expensive than Wii Fit. Wii Fit also has no monthly fee like there is at a gym.
I love yoga, but I doubt this will help you any more than a book would. Instructors are great to have when you're in-posture. It's hard to get all the nuances of a posture right, and that's where instructors are most helpful. I doubt the sensors they have are good enough to know I not moving my shoulders away from my neck, or that I'm not rotating my thighs inward.
In all honesty, though, I am really excited about the confirmation of more durable boards for the american release.
It is incredibly annoying to be excluded from things for being an outlier when it comes to size, and it's nice to see Nintendo trying to be inclusive.
Now, I just hope that it's big enough to fit my size 15 feet on to
Not to be rude, but how much do you weigh? 300 lbs is 21 stone, which is pretty close to being two mes.
(funnily enough your feet are literally twice the size of mine)
It's hard to figure out what I weigh, because most scales stop at 300, but I would guess I'm somewhere around 325 lbs.
Mind you, I am 6'5", and proportionally huge, like if you just scaled up a normal sized person. That accounts for my massive hands and feet. I also have trouble buying hats
I could definitely stand to lose some weight, but I doubt I could ever healthily get below, say, 250. Especially because, when I'm in shape, I enjoy weight lifting.
I better stop now, before I go into a rant about the outrages prices they charge for big & tall clothing, or how difficult it is to find long sleeve shirts with long enough sleeves (I have a wing span over 7'), etc.

No, see, I AM fat, but I am ALSO an outlier when it comes to size, as well (see my above post.)

God, yes, I hear that. I'm a bit shorter than you (6'4"), and the run-around to find long-sleeved shirts, sweaters, and coats that actually fit is ridiculous. And then they charge you $20 more for the two inches of extra fabric. :x
I am lucky my feet are only 13-14 (depending on company), rather than your 15s. Most decent designers stop at 13, and only a few go to 14.
They like the game parts more than the exercise parts, but there's positive impressions about yoga too. It made me more excited for the game.

Kathleen is leaving! :(:(
in all fairness, I like games better than exercise too, but she did say that she was actually breaking a sweat and was much better than the classes/taps she has been to/watched.
To sum up, if you ask someone if they like games or exercise better, 9 out of 10 people will same games. exercise is work, lol

I'm the same height but only 160 lbs. I get the fun of looking not just for stuff that's long, but also doesn't make me look like I'm wearing a tent. Seriously, I wear 34x34 or 34x32 pants, but for whatever reason most stores think all men have waistlines far larger than their inseams. Oh well, at least I know WiiFit won't collapse into a heap when i step on it. I can't wait to see how stupid I look when me and my friends record each other playing.

I have to applaud Nintendo for trying to make exercise into a game, at least. Especially for us fatass Americans.
I'm 6'2" and I guess probably 220lbs. now. Troubling considering I was 170lbs at the start of summer. That's what happens when you go from living in an apartment eating just a sub a day to living at home eating out once a week.
Official release date for North America has been changed from "2008" to the more specific "Q2 2008"
I thought it was originally being released in January? Japan already has it, are they having manufacturing problems that they can't up production for the US as well?

Likely a marketing move. March has Brawl and Mario Kart drops a month or so later, so Nintendo is spacing out the things that are guaranteed to print money.

Why the crap did I ever make my original name "cloudeagle?"
WiiFit is at over a million sold in Japan and at the 6-week mark is still #1 on the Japanese chart this week (~93k).
Curiously in the same article about 1 million sold 1UP casually drops May 20th as the US launch date, which they also list on the game's page. http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3165333
I think the move back reflects supply issues. They released first in Japan as a sort of test run. It sold out quickly and resell values almost doubled, so I'm sure Nintendo wants to make sure at launch they have enough boards ready.
holy cow, you're gigantic. i'm 5'6'' and 140 lbs. You could squash me...on accident
That is pretty thin.
I'm 6'3" and 145 lbs. Beat this. Actually, it's not healthy.
You are like my twin; I'm 6'3" and 150. Major weight-gain is needed.
6' and 142lbs, same ballpark. I haven't been able to fluctuate more than a couple lbs up or down for years, no matter what I'm doing/eating. This does look interesting for the yoga and mingame parts, though.

Whooo boy. I'm 6' and 185 lbs. Nothing egregious. But I also have a fitness routine that includes distance running, sprinting, and Muy Thai / Jiu Jitsu. Plus my job makes me move stuff pretty often...which makes little sense, because I am a middle school teacher.
This game only interests me as a possible follow-up to the goofy fun that was Wii Sports. But in general, anything that makes Nintendo money is okay by me. Guess that makes me a fanboy.

You people are gigantic compared to me. I'm 5' 7", 125 lbs. Yes, I am healthy, I just have a hyperactive metabolism.
On topic, I will be getting Wii Fit.
I'm 5' 5" and 141lbs (according to the scales this morning) and I have a underactive metabolism (hypothyroidism to give it a fancy name), that whilst medicated to an extent still leads to me putting on weight easily.
A lot of the complainers seem to denounce it as useless as it won't produce enough exercise to make you lose weight.
They are missing the point. The point is to give you enough daily exercise such that (along with healthy eating etc) you won't gain weight.
If you're unhealthy to start with you need more intensive effort to get into shape. This is aiming to make doing enough to stay in shape easier by making it more fun. How is this a bad thing?
