Forgive my ignorance, I don't own a 360, but aren't all achievements, by definition, tacked on? When I played through portal on my pc occasionaly a box would pop up informing me I had done some random task, but I never really payed it any mind. Are the points actually worth anything, or are they just there to victimize people with ocd, as would be apparent from first glance, like gta or donkey kong collectothons?

Tacked on, where it means they just assigned them to 5 values of combo points instead of spreading them out throughout the game and making you earn them like almost every other game.
It's like they made the game and forgot to throw them in there somewhere until the last minute.

Can we get the chemicals in. 'Cause anything's better than this.

They're usually fun ways to add replay value to a game. Some people are retarded though, and rent games to just to make the number in their gamertag go up rather than actually enjoying what they're playing.
Is it an xbox exclusive or a multi-platform title, because I would presume the latter and they did not pay much attention to it. I know I was surprised when acheivements popped up in my pc game, although in that case they had made them already for the xbox version and threw them into the pc version for shits and grins. Also, you use the word earn, but what exactly can you spend the gamerpoints on?

So the complaint is that this game gives out its 1000 points too quickly, and anyone who doesn't rent it will have an e-penis that is 1000 points shorter than the losers who do, thats the issue here?

If somebody is a boring enough person to rent games specifically for gamer points, well, I guess.
Actually to be honest, I think the video shows what a lack of effort the developers put into their game. Well thought out achievements can really extend a game's playtime.

see the way I look at it is the point value is your e-peen's length, which I don't really care about that. I care about my e-peen's girth, and I see the girth as the amount of good solid games you've played (which shows on your profile for those of you who don't have a 360) minus the amount of shit or kid's games that give you points for turning the game on.
While nobody is disputing that gamerpoints don't really matter in the long run, they DO give some replayability value ... I know myself I've often played a level over to unlock another 10 or 20 points.
This game on the other hand makes a joke of the whole concept behind gamerpoints in general ... the idea of giving the player an extra goal inside the game to strive for a goal that effects them outside of the title.
I mean seriously, it looks like they didn't even fucking try.
I don't think they intended it to be as exploitable as it is. They probably thought over the course of the game, the player's skill would improve enough such that he or she would eventually be able to get the highest possible combo.

I think the main issue is that instead of awesome achievements like "Daredevil" in CoD 4
Kill an enemy while blinded by a flash grenade
, this is kinda missing out on one of the more nifty things about achievements: recognition of cool events or ideas.
A good achievement is like having the developer wink at you.
Things like "Irony" in Bioshock, or the Back to the Future one in PGR4.
They are given for things that are not necessarily part of the core of a runthrough to a game, but are something you CAN do, and the dev thought of it too, so they are sharing it with you.

But at least we're not fatasses.

Natural e-peen enhancement.

that's right, MINE'S WIDER THAN YOURS!
and that's my take on xbox live e-peen.

Still no excuse for how fucking stupid this is.
