I clicked on the Macy's button and got a message that they requested their ad be taken off the site.

Why would you turn down free advertising?

I'd guess it's so that other stores can't react to their sales by cutting prices more, but it could just be that they want to control their information.

I think it's the control thing. The stores usually sue under the DMCA, because it allows them to target a website's service provider.
Despite the fact that facts cannot be copyrighted, most sites don't have the pockets to go against Best Buy in court. This year Wal-Mart upped the ante by claiming their BF sale prices amounted to "commercially valuable" trade secrets.

Truthfully, they want you to have to go to their website, or even better their B&M store, to find out what they have on sale.

    Interesting.

Thanksgiving this year doubles as my birthday, so I'm not really sure what to expect when I go home to celebrate. I'm guessing my parents are going to give me a dead cat strapped with C4 as my present this year.

Shit, it's American (ie - fake) Thanksgiving this week?

Sweet. I can't wait for Saturday, when all the trampling stories come rolling in.

Deaths and Injuries due to low low prices == hilarious (also a sad comment on our consumer driven society)

Actually, we only keep one Mountie in Ottawa, on the off-chance that some US soldiers do manage to find it without getting lost. We keep the bulk of our forces around Toronto, which is where we assume the US army will accidentally end up instead of getting to Ottawa. We also have some forces in Mexico, in case you guys forgot that we're north of you.

Well, I would have thought that the overblown language would have been a tip-off, but I guess there is a non-insignificant number of crazy people here who actually talk like that seriously.

I am not one of them.

Though I do find the concept of Thanksgiving rather silly and ironic. It is nice to have a family holiday though. But for me, that's Chinese New Year.

If Lost taught us anything, it's that polar bears thrive in a tropical environment.

Also, that people can see a giant sentient cloud of black smoke kill their friends, then forget all about it and never mention it again.

My parents rented a house in the moutains of north carolina. It has a hot tub and a bajillion rooms. My brother and his ex-girlfriend are making thanksgiving dinner, which means we'll have something indian (the subcontinent) in flavor. Last time I was with my brothers I spent a lot of the time drunk and/or high so I can't help but think this will be the case again. And of course my parents are sleeping in seperate rooms due to something or another.

Oh and speaking of my parents - my family's favorite thanksgiving story. There is no thanksgiving in australia of course, and my parents, after moving to the states, went to a friends for their 2nd thanksgiving here. They asked said friend about the meaning of thanksgiving, and he replied by saying how the indians saved the pilgrims and everyone was happy. Then my parents loudly said "I bet they're kicking themselves now!" to which quiet horror was expressed.

I get to travel on two Detroit freeways that happen to connect three major malls. I'm thinking being on the road between 10am and noon should allow me to dodge the early morning nutjobs.

Yeah, they do. I don't have much of a choice unfortunately. I'll be staying at my girlfriend's mom's place Thursday night and I want to get back to my parent's place for Friday night shenanigans with my old high school buddies. Leaving later won't do much good. I'm thinking that 10-12n is the sweet spot. I just need to make sure I have enough headlight-mounted RPGs.

Well I'll be traveling on Friday, the game traffic will be long gone by the time I hit the road. I was going to take 94 tomorrow to get to Port Huron from the western suburbs but with the game it'd be insane. I'll have to take 696 (the longest connector [three-digit] freeway in the nation FYI) to bypass Detroit. Pain in my ass.
