New Nintendo Europe website soon: does it mean Wii-Points-for-Stars at last?
So, several months ago NoE sent e-mails to people who are collecting the 'stars' they dish out as loyalty points with their games and systems, to ask them to sign up to new Ts&Cs that meant the stars would expire in a year, but that you would 'soon' be able to exchange them for Wii Points, a currency that actually has some non-zero monetary value. Cue much specuation about plausible stars/points exchange rates.
Since then though, we've heard nothing. They must be going to give us our Wii points within a year, or our stars will expire and they've essentially lied to us.
Now though, the NoE website is down for a big redesign. Does this mean Wii Points for loyalty stars are coming? Cue more speculation! What exchange rates are plausible?! What VC games are worth getting free if we don't have to pay for them? Will Europe finally get something nice from Nintendo?
Man, why the fuck do NA audiences get shafted for shit like this? I mean, I know Europe gets hosed pretty frequently with releases, but NA has never had cool prizes for registering stuff, 'cept that Zelda Anniversary disc.

I think Kaplan said in an interview that it was because of shipping costs.

To be fair, cool prizes for registering things in Europe exist strictly in potentia at this point. We've had the odd actual tangible item on offer in exchange for the stars, but they've been in such low numbers they've effectively been prize draws.
