I'm an idiot and spilled water inside my computer case.

It didn't come into direct contact with any actual parts (That is, there was no water on the mobo or the graphics card or anything) but my 8800GTS is fried, I assume some of the vapour went in through the intake fan and fucked shit around. I'll have a new one soon enough, but that's really the extent of my budget. The other problem here is that my mobo, which functions perfectly aside from the following, doesn't recognize that there's an ethernet cable plugged into the ethernet port, and Windows tells me that the network cable is unplugged. There is no light on in the port as there usually is, but Device Manager recognizes the motherboard's network controller. I borrowed my brother's 7900GT and wireless G adapter to post this but this is only temporary, and I really don't have the cash for a network card or a new mobo (Can't keep the adapter and I need a wired connection). Is there anything I can do to save my ethernet port?

Thanks, H/A.

PS. Yes I'm stupid and I don't want to hear it several times over in this thread.

delicious.

The answer is no. You killed it.

Water vapour, by the way, would assume that your water boiled inside your computer case. This isn't true. Water must have come into contact with your machine. If you had yanked the power as soon as you did it, it may have stood a chance given time to dry out.

You're going to have to pony up the cash.

This is one fear I have with my Antec 900 Case since it has a huge fan at the top, over the processor heatsink.

It's on my desk, but whenever somebody pops the top of a soda can near it I cringe. I tell them to be careful and pop it away from my system with a hand over the mouth of the can, but they never listen. I always get an "oh please...." look.

If your ethernet connection is integrated into your motherboard, that means exactly what you don't want to hear. Sorry.

It's been so long since I've posted here, I've removed my signature since most of what I had here were broken links. Shows over, you can carry on to the next post.

Alrighty. Thanks. Follow up: There's a chance that more than just the ethernet port on the mobo is fucked up. Am I risking any of my hardware by running it on a damaged mobo?

Just FYI, a PCI network card is about the cheapest computer component you can get. This one is $4 or 99 cents if you buy used (plus shipping of course).

Probably not, but there is no guarantee. Disable it through your hardware manager, or more ideally through your BIOS, and use at your own risk. If you just recently bought a 400 dollar processor, you might want to look into getting a new motherboard soon. If you're running an 80 dollar bargin chip, and you have the funds to replace if you fry it, I'd probably keep running it.
