Keeping the Original Packaging

Has anyone ever had trouble getting warranty service (either through a B&M extra policy or the standard one that comes with the item) if you don't have the original packaging? I've kept all of my receipts for my 360, Rock Band, other big purchases in my handy dandy file folder, but was wondering if I could finally get rid of all these extra boxes that are following me from move to move.

I am in the business of saving lives.

I know all my Nintendo game boxes tend to have a message on them to the effect of "Please retain this packaging for future reference". `However, whenever I've had to get an item replaced by the manufacturer, they'll either ship you out a box to send it to them in, or just allow you to send it in whichever safe packaging you please. The safest way, of course, would be to give the customer service desks of the various companies a ring and ask for yourself, or see if they have an FAQ on the support sections of their websites.

HAHA! I have the same disorder.

For most stuff, I cut out the block of barcodes and just save that with the manuals, etc. Haven't made use of one yet, but makes me feel better and don't have boxes everywhere.

I normally keep boxes until the warranty has expired, but it depends on the manufacturer. When I had a Gamecube break down, I just put it in a box Nintendo sent me. When I had a graphics card die 6 months after buying it, Newegg's warranty was still valid, but I had to return it in its original box (which I still had).

That's a good idea. I never keep original packaging, I hate packratting shit like that. It takes up room that I need for my burgeoning collection of People magazine.
