Wii thread, so old oh my god it's going to die nooo

Ah, here we go.
Indeed it is. I really like the look of the game so far myself.
They seem to be really early in development still too.
Also, does anyone have a good suggestion for streaming music from a PC to the Wii?
No, it's not hard to tell at all if you've ever played any version of SF2 before.
But it isn't hooked up to any games yet!
Yeah, I can't really see anything cool here. Like what, Sam can walk tightropes, but in the new game, if you have a balance board, you have to stand on it and lean to keep him from falling (or maybe match the game's "lean" direction to let Sam move faster or some other bonus)? That's dumb, because it's shitty gameplay.
The essence of good gameplay, as I've said before, is giving the player interesting and meaningful choices. In effect, this part of the "fun" equation is "The shit that's happening is cool" (secret agent walking on a tightrope to break into a guarded facility is pretty cool) and "My decisions matter" (there's no decision here; you never ever benefit from Sam falling off). Since you would never actively decide to slip and get Sam killed, the entire mechanism is basically the same as "press A in the right timing and your guy will swim through the water faster." It's OK in short bursts since it gives you a button to press for an easy reward, but it becomes very dull very quickly, and then eventually becomes annoying ("why the fuck can't he just swim, why do I gotta press A exactly once every 0.75 seconds?")
So yeah, there's really not a whole lot to explore here. Hell, even in Uncharted, when Drake walks across logs and you have to tilt the Sixaxis left and right to keep his balance, it's just annoying. It's not fun. As the player, I'm not actually making any choice, because there is only one good option (try not to fall down) and one bad option (fall down).
And ate all his wifes baking
And became a fatty
If nothing else Capcom is going to port some House of the Dead games over to the Wii sometime next year which should be pretty fucking awesome considering how well lightgun games work on the Wii and that its House of the Dead.
Yeah, it was basically saying "looks like Ryu is standing on the ground and his head is getting whipped back" but then I saw that it had already been said and the full picture had been shown, so I just removed it.
Although I guess that doesn't really count as "something cool" either. Hmm . . .
Like what? The obvious application is some kind of skiing/surfing/snowboarding/skateboarding game. You know, something where balancing your foot-weight is inherently important. Aside from that, though...what?
Maybe a game where you have like a lightsaber and you float around on a platform, and leaning moves the platform and swinging the Wiimote uses the sword? Maybe you could also aim a gun with the pointer function. Or it could be, like, a jetpack instead of a flying platform, and your leaning motions would steer it.
Boxing games could use your weight shift to determine how hard your punches are or let you slip punches by shifting your stance, except that the balance board requires you to stand like you're waiting for the elevator to reach your floor, it's not really suited to a boxing stance, so that wouldn't really work.
What I'm saying here is "what potential, really?" Just "it's a new device" doesn't mean that anything good can come out of it. As a doubly-hard challenge, name something that the tilt sensors on the PS3 controller can't do, or can't do as well.
Oh yeah, take that Sixaxis controller!
that's like saying a racing wheel is dumb because you can only use it to play racing games
The issue I have there, aside from not really being into that kind of game (I do like actual skiing, just not games about downhill snow traversal), is that a general-purpose controller does just fine. It's not that much better, and it costs extra money, so unless you're a real enthusiast of that genre, it really doesn't seem worth it.
Ski jumping was no fun.
That soccer minigame wasn't really good either.
But the one where you have to get the ball into the hole. I liked that one.
Recent games and unfortunate fanbase aside, Sonic is totally awesome
Maybe you could use the Wii Board for some kind of stealth game application. One of the main things that it seems to do in WiiFit is getting people to improve their balance. Maybe you could be playing a game where you are infiltrating a lot of different areas and when you stand on the Wii Board you go into stealth mode. From there you would automatically slowly move forward and you can shift your weight to adjust your balance in the game so that you can better navigate your character around platforms and things like trip sensors that could set off alarms. Something like that might be, alright I guess.
This is just a lie. The Genesis games were fucking great overall. Especially Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic and Knuckles.
Everything after that has been mostly crap of course though, with the occasional gem here and there (Sonic and the Secret Rings for instance, looks to be pretty good).
Yes it does.
But I'll be renting it anyway, like I do all new Sonic games, in a vain attempt to something redeemable, or the very least reminds me of when Sonic games were my favorite thing in the world.
