So yeah. PC ZONE Are giving away free boxed copies* of Auto Assault with first month of play included. I may or may not install it and play it sometime. I hear it is a piece of shit, but there you go.


When I say boxed copy, I mean boxed copy. Manual, map, trial codes for friends, stand alone DVD etc.

I don't quite know what they mean by 'BOTH City of Heroes or City of Villains' though. Surely it should be 'EITHER City of Heroes or City of Villains' or 'BOTH City of Heroes and City of Villains'?

It'll be both CoH and CoV. When you get one you get the other now.

This'll still be cool as it means that more folks will join CoX, even if it is on the Euro servers.

No, the giveaway only happened if you bought one game before Nov 4th. If you buy just CoV or CoH, you still just get CoV or CoH.

There was a time when you could download and try Auto Assault for free. I bit at the offer and I'd have to agree that soul-less is pretty apt description of it.

..on another note, I always think about re-installing COX on my laptop. I've played through a bunch of MMOs, and retain almost entirely positive memories of my romps through COX. Me thinks this might happen TONIGHT, for a timely re-subscription over the xmas break. I mean, what else am I going to do at my parents' house? I can EAT COOKIES/BEERS AND PLAY at the same time.

Auto Assault was absolute shit.
The concept and even the art was great. Hell the story was even pretty good.
But the gameplay? Oh my lord. They essentially ripped off WoW and replaced your Gnome with a sports car. It is, honest to god, the single greatest example of a lead designer having no fucking clue as to what he was doing. It played nothing, NOTHING, like the concept implied.
The sad thing is that type of game has tons of potential and I think AA could have easily found a niche enough market to stay alive if all they changed was the combat. It didn't feel anything like Twisted Metal, even though that is exactly what most people would have expected out of it.
