Recommend some good, free PC games

Alright, I'm home for Christmas for a couple of days and am currently stuck with my old computer. What to do, what to do. I tried to play some Team Fortress 2, but that didn't work out very well, so I'm thinking that I could perhaps occupy myself with some free games. Any tips? I've looked at some game on-threads but Dwarf Fortress and whatever else I found didn't really entice me that much.
