If you could revive a dead game series. . .

ITT: games that didn't make it in their time, but could be so much better now with technological progress.

My suggestion: anyone remember this old game called Robinson's Requiem? The concept was that you were a scout who crash-landed on a hostile alien planet, and you had to survive and get off-world. The twist was that survival was your challenge, not combat: it was a game where every injury had consequences, where you were just as likely to die from exposure or starvation or thirst as well as monsters, and where an infected wound could lead to the tough choice of, "Do I tough it out and risk dying of infection, or amputate my own limb with a rusty knife?"

Refinements: Oblivion's engine for modern graphics. An AI like Radiant could allow creatures to interact in a more realistic fashion, resulting in life cycles and predator-prey relationships and so on. Physics engines could allow for multiple solutions to problems: Will you swim across the river and risk hypothermia? Push a floating tree into the water and use it as a raft? Cut down a huge tree and try to build a bridge?

Modern innovations in game concepts could also allow the game to appeal to a wider base: use a sliding difficulty to adjust the level of "survival" needed. Also, for those of us who are GTA fans, the game could be easily converted into a sandbox game where you could live out a lifetime on this hostile world, striving to survive as long as possible before the planet finally kills you. . .

    Shemmnue, for some damn resolution.

Also, Phantasy Star Online. Don't you tell me it's alive. The thing that exists now is but a mere shell of the Dreamcast glory that is PSO.

Or another game set in the Planescape universe. Refinements would be good graphics and all that, but to be honest, as long as they keep the writers, I'd buy it even if they'd put it out in the BG1 engine.

Fuck yeah. Carmegeddon 4 with modern graphics and physics would be simply amazing. I remember getting my first non-on board video card so that I could play Carmageddon 2. The series desperately needs a modern sequel, 2 and 3 are really dated graphically, and the physics are kind of off once you upgrade too much. Still, more fun than should be legal, especially multiplayer.

Also, gives me more Darksun. Now, damnit.

The only two suitable routes for the third game would be Interstate 94 or Interstate 95 (all the other I-9x routes are too short). I-94 is cross country, but goes through N. Dakota and Michigan and all that. That's too far north, and I-76 already looks like the Dakotas (Lubbock is fucking flat). I-95 makes more sense -- it goes right down the east coast from Maine to Miami -- gives a lot of great scenery.

13 years after I-82, We'd probably need a third Champion, too.

Personally, I'd like a fourth Thief without the broken levels in Thief Deadly Shadows.

Yeah, I've been waiting for Star Control 4 for a long time. Wow, it's great that, you know, some half-baked game company didn't make a shitty sequel to Star Control 2 in the meantime. It's weird, though, how they skipped the number 3 in the series. Kinda like what they did with Star Trek 5 and Highlander 2. Weird, huh?

Prophecy was a shitty way to end one of the greatest series of all time.

Also, another Tex Murphy game. The ending to Overseer set up another sequal perfectly, but Access got bought out before it could be made.
