Selling my used games

So I'm in need of a bit of money and fast so I've decided to start selling off some of my precious game collection.

I was wondering... is it better to sell on ebay or gamestop?

Some games seem to not be selling too well on ebay

however other games rarer and newer (like Ikaruga and Assassins Creed) seem to be selling well (for about 30 bucks a pop)

So, should I sell them on eBay or Gamestop? Or is there a better third option?

Well if you need actual cash, Gamestop would have to be ruled out. I'm pretty sure they only give you store credit. A possible 3rd option would be craigslist if you're located near one of the areas on it. You'd probably be able to get your hands on the money faster too, since you'd be able to just meet up w/ the buyer. Make sure you meet at a well-populated and well-lit place though if you do go that route.

Gamestop will give you cash, but it is considerably less than what the store-credit would be.

eBay will have better prices on pretty much anything that's in demand. Gamestop will take almost any game made for a console that they still carry, regardless of damage or rarity. Sell all the good stuff on eBay, take all the crap to Gamestop.

I've had better luck with Half.com than eBay for selling games, personally. It's easy to use Half.com since they're owned by eBay, anyway. Don't go to Gamestop unless you want store credit, and even then it's not great. Two weeks ago I listed 3 games on Half.com, and two of them sold within an hour. The third is still there, but that's probably because it was a crappy game that no one cares about (Alien Hominid).

you could always tade in to gamestop for credit. use the credit for something that you then change your mind about and return it, or would that only get you crdit back?

Not positive, but probably just credit because it would be recorded on the receipt. Not sure if they accept returns without receipts, but I doubt that too.

Let's not try to scam Gamestop. Anyway, yes ebay, amazon, half.com, and craigslist are all good places to start with. You could also ask friends if they wanna buy any games from you.

Gamestop also won't take older games, as far as I remember. And any game that sells for shit on eBay will probably only net you a dollar or something at Gamestop.

You will always, always make more on a private sale than involving a game company. ebay or your local trading paper etc are the go.

I remember buying a new 360 game at Gamestop... brand new, just came out, I think it was Call of Duty 4. Two days later, after beating it, I brought it back for store credit and ended up getting $30 for it. I should have just fucking rented it. Would have saved me around 23 bucks.

A used game store is also not bad, usually you'd get less than ebay but way more than what you'd get at Gamestops.

Yeah, Gamestop pretty much invariably rips you off.

I'm always looking for some rarer and older stuff to round out my collection. Would it be against policy to post a list of what you have and what you're looking for?

If so, please send me a PM.

Definitely ebay. Gamestop will give you like $5 cash max for good condition games, even relatively new ones. They're a bit more generous with store credit, particularly with their crazy card deals and if you trade in a huge stack of games, but you still won't get that good a deal. They're looking to resell for a profit - someone you sell to on eBay will most likely just be looking to pick up a used game for less than they'd have to pay Gamestop for it. eBay makes it insanely easy to sell old games too - I got rid of a good chunk of games that I wasn't playing anymore, got $15-25 for each one.
