In search of breakbeats

I'm fond of most if not all kinds of electronic music, but whenever I see a live DJ set or something of the like, it's always the breakbeat artists that put on the show I enjoy most.

So who are some good artists in the genre worth looking up? If it's any help as reference, my favorite DJ is BT(I'm also into Roni Size/Reprazent and Paul van Dyk), and I'm into the music the Bemani(Beatmania/DDR/etc.) sound team produces, but the few breakbeat tracks they've done weren't really to my liking.

One example of a breakbeat song I really liked was Symbion Project's FreQ Out from Frequency, but I figure I should start giving tracks a listen that weren't composed for games.

There is only one song for all your future.

    Greatest Beats by Scooter.

Itself simply the beat to We are the Greatest, also by Scooter.

Itself a song that samples heavily from Billy Ocean or something.

Please don't take this reply seriously. But if you do, the above songs are awesome.

I'm a big fan of Hybrid. Skip their sophomore album and go straight for Wider Angle (the live bonus disc rocks) and their last album I Choose Noise.

every person who doesn't like an acquired taste always seems to think everyone who likes it is faking it. it should be an official fallacy.

the "no true scotch man" fallacy.

Hybrid is great - I enjoy all their albums, though "Wide(r) Angle" was their pinnacle and that's like six years ago. They're badly in need of a comeback album, and no, "I Choose Noise" wasn't it (though it had about 4 extremely solid tracks)

The Crystal Method is severely lacking in cred but both their Nike+ album as well as Legions of Boom were both extremely solid; If you like BT TCM should be fitting.

Ditto on this one. DJ baby anne has quite a lot of good live stuff as well.

BT always claims hes not a DJ which I don't quite understand. I guess perhaps because he doesn't spin vinyl or most of his sets are done with a laptop?!?

Her Mixed Live Club Ra, Las Vegas CD is pretty much all breakbeat stuff.

Brain Damaged (Sharaz) is my favorite track on that.

    Couple of quick suggestions:

    Roman Rai
    Retroid
    Shiloh
    Luke Chable

There are a bunch of sites that cater to the progressive and breaks community too. If you want to learn about the latest releases, and greatest tracks from back in the day, check out Bijou Breaks, Hybridized.org, and Progressive-Sounds. Also, it's worth trying out enthusiast mixes to see what's popular and what's kicking. I think Mix Depot is still okay for that sort of thing, and the mixes by the Lunar-Entertainment dudes are always quality.

I haven't listened to breakbeat in awhile, but I used to love Jackal & Hyde as well as Dynamix II. Very bass-heavy with an electro sound.

I usually just listen to my electronica from online streams as it tends to give a little taste of everything. You may want to check out the breaks channel at di.fm.

Artists I've heard there that are worth checking out:
    DJ Wicked Wes
    Adam Freeland
    Ils
    Tayo

Nitpick: BT is not a DJ, he doesn't spin disks.

You might want to check out DJ Rap - Touching Bass disc 2. The first disc of this set is DnB, the second disc is breaks.

Lacking in cred? Get Vegas (their first album). Still their best album, IMHO. I guarantee you'll recognize at least 2 songs from that one.

I have to admit that when it comes to naming artists that fit into different genres, I'm of little help, but suggesting stuff similar to BT, there are a few favorites of mine, some of which have been mentioned:
    Crystal Method
    DJ Tiësto
    DJ Rap
    Ferry Corsten
Timo Maas - Love this guy, especially his "Loud" album
    Bad Boy Bill
    Chemical Brothers

Okay, as I said, I'm crap at labeling artists based on genre. A lot of those might be more "Trance", but there you go. Still excellent stuff.

Heh, much as I love TCM "Vegas" was IMO their weakest album. It's certainly not bad, but I found Tweekend to be a bit better and Legions of Boom to be far stronger.

Opinion of course, I think we'd both agree that TCM has some very good songs.
