just read the article and came here to see if anyone had posted on it. I'm actually really sad about this. He is an actor that I liked, a lot. And the Joker portrayel that I've seen so far is amazing...

Posting is going on in D&D and SE++, if you're starved for details.
Well, this is gonna screw up the portrayal of the Joker. If he is (was?) good at the role, who the hell is going to want to take it over for the next Batman movie?

Um, also, it's very sad.
The Joker was probably my least favorite Batman character, but from what I've seen he took the role above and beyond. I remember reading an article about him and how he beat out some other impressive actors for the role, and how he had a book with sadistic things the Joker would consider funny - like AIDS, for example.
Just so random. What a waste.

the dark knight is in post production so it wont affect this movie.

I know it won't affect THIS movie. I'm worried about the future movies. All accounts are that he is an excellent Joker. Not only are actors going to be gunshy of the role because it will be a touchy thing to take over for a young actor who died, they are quite probably going to avoid the role because he (most likely) sets the standard for what the Batman Begins Universe's Joker is like. Who wants to play "Heath Ledger, the promising young actor who died suddenly and tragically, as the Joker"? Because that's exactly what any subsequent actors will need to do: perform another actor's interpretation of the character, but not just any other actor, but one who most people recognized as a special, promising talent.
Then again, maybe the Joker gets killed, so it might not be an issue.

Oh, my heart goes out to his family, estranged wife/girlfriend, and little daughter.
Wait, I don't know Heath Ledger at all, or his family, and I don't send my heart out to the thousands of other people who die every day who I don't know, so why would this guy be any different?
Maybe I'll just talk about the one thing in his life that was relevant to my interests.

Or you can not talk at all, how about that?
Or you can just stop with the "Oh my delicate sensibilities are offended by you talking about something practical when a man I never knew just died" act, how about that?

How about you learn how to respect a human life?
You're acting like a piece of shit. A dude just died for no good reason and all you care about is your own entertainment. Show some compassion and act like a fucking human being.
How about you not jump to conclusions about my respect for human life because I came to a fucking internet forum for the discussion of comics to discuss how Ledger's death affects a comic book movie? If I want to discuss what a fucking tragedy his death is, I'll go to the fucking "death is tragic" internet forum.
Nice try Zombie. But Geebs will probably shut this down if people fight in it anyway.
I don't think there is anything wrong with being glad he finished The Dark Knight though. When I heard that he had, I was thankful because it means he ended his career on a high note. Which, while not nearly as good as having him alive, is at least the best thing given the terrible situation.
So the most realistic news I've heard about his death involves him just being involved in a series of mentally and psychologically taxing roles in a row: heroin addict, Bob Dylan, the Joker, and he was currently filming a new movie. He had even mentioned that while taking Ambien (sleeping pills) he was only getting about 1-2 hours of sleep due to the psychological toll of portraying the Joker and he was trying alternative ways to deal with the stress (they found his body because his maid had come to tell him his massage therapist had arrived). At least it wasn't suicide and was just too many sleeping pills trying to get some rest.

Damn, I was sorry to hear about this. He was a good actor and seemed to have a lot of great movies ahead of him. From the trailers I've seen, his performance in The Dark Knight will be one hell of a swan song.

Stop posting and start mourning. People you do not know are dying.
Honestly it bothers me that somebody fucking died and the first thing that comes to people's minds is "jeez I hope this doesn't fuck up the Batman movie."
I'm not saying you have to hold a candlelight vigil or some shit but god damn people.

Not that a humble noob like me would ever contradict He Who Moderates The Forum, but this *is* a comic book forum. It doesn't surprise me that the Batman movie is one of the first things that springs to mind when the forumers hear about Heath's death. Plus I think the posts here have been a lot more respectful than the "hur hur jousting accident" and "goddammit he's dead and Brittney lives?" posts I've seen on other forums.

I think he means because you're a complete douche to everyone and now you're yelling at someone to respect someone he's never had any contact with.
it actually was from a couple years ago when gnt had the chat thread. a friend of mine had been killed in a car crash and he acted like a dick about it. BUT that's in the past and it has nothing to do with heath ledger and i meant to delete the ironic post last night but it slipped my mind.
i liked pretty much every heath ledger film i saw. even that rock and roll knight movie.

I didn't say that it wasn't normal to wonder about the status about the Batman movie.
I'm just saying that it's weird that it's the first thought that some people bothered to post. People get more worked up over fictional characters' deaths around here than a real person's, and that's a little...off.
I guess. I've been around too many people IRL and online who show more outrage at all sorts of things than even the most brutal inhumanity to other men and women. It's not just us (I'll admit that was my first thought as well, but I don't make any claims to be a humanitarian either).
I don't know about you guys, but knowing it was his last film and how good I think his performance is going to be, (was?), it would be even sadder if we didn't get to see it. It's the last piece of him that we have left, as fans. Either way I'm sad, especially for his kid.

Dear god. You realize what this means if that's the case right?
In a way, the Joker actually killed someone in real life.
That's kind of creepy in a whole 'nother way.

Shame to lose such a great actor who would, no doubt, be in many more Batman movies (as well as other quality titles, of course )
