DMC4 out now for 360/PS3: This party's gettin' CRAZY! (ITT bitches love Sanskrit)
Man this is fun. I have to say, as much as DMC3 was cool and all, I still can't get through a couple bosses in. The levels early on seemed so long and yet so easy that losing on a boss fight meant I had a nice long slog back. This one feels really fun and interesting, even when you're just whaling on little enemies.

When Belial (the boss) is on the ground and his flames are out, there are two ways to use the devil bringer:
1.) Jump in front of his head and grab him. This punches him into the ground. Once he is on the ground, grab him again (after doing a few slashes) ad you will punch him up and then away. This does major damage.
2.) IF you don't jump to his head, but instead just grab him standing, you will do the punch up and away move, which will make him relight his flames after that. THis does medium damage.
So last night was like, my second experience with DMC ever. I got crushed by the ice things, then handed the controller to my cousin, a veteran DMC player and watched him slaughter the ice things and start tossing the boss around like he was a toy. It has to be one of the most incredible looking thing I've ever seen. Definitely going to look for the first three now, and probably pre-order 4...not sure for which platform though.
They make a box set of DMC1-3 for $30 or less. You may want to get them separate used though and get the special edition of DMC3, since they added quite a bit.
After reading about Dante being included I am going to switch my $$$ off of Haze and onto this, probably the 360 version just because of Live integration. And I hate the triggers on the PS3; for those playing with the DS3, did they change anything with the controller besides adding rumble?
Also, how on earth will you be able to switch both weapons and guns? It seems like using triggers for that would be awkward, but I guess there are some games that were just perfect with the PS2 controller (DMC and SSX off the top of my head).
IMO the demo was ok, nothing great or spectacular as some claim. It didn't really show much new innovation in the series. I was a bit disappointed with the gun play, Nero's gun felt so weak, now I don't know if that was just for the demo or what but it was disappointing. The graphics were pretty good, the animations could have used a little work here and there, I might just be nit picking but it also might just be the demo.
Yea, this is pretty much how I felt about the demo. At least the timed one, as it just seemed really too easy. The boss one was a lot better, but still, it just felt really, really similar. Hopefully the game will mix things up. You know what bugged me though? Nero has the same fucking attitude of Dante, especially in the boss fight. It becomes clear that Capcom just has Nero mostly as a marketing decision. (I figure the arm thing could still have been done by Dante if they wanted to.)

I figured it was an excuse to draw in new players hwo might be driven away by the cerebral character driven story of the previous 3 games.
By creating a fresh character, even if he is exactly the same, people can play it without fear of having to know his backstory before hand.
Of course I'm willing to bet the fact he looks like Dante isn't exactly coincidence story-wise either. Hes definetly his son or a resurrected Vergil or Sparda. Most likely Sparda.
You can use up a charge to charge up the forward+ slash attack, by holding the slash button a bit before releasing. It does a big fiery dash attack.
Pressing the L trigger at exactly the right time after swinging your sword will give you a free charge.
As cool as revving the sword is... How useful is it?
It seems to light on fire for about a hit or two, but you need to charge it for a hell of a long time.
Its probably easier to do in practice, probably by revving when attacking. As it was I found it difficult to use as I'd charge and then find a chair to break and the guns shit for breaking objects.

you can stack it to 3 hits btw
really nice on the beriel fight right before you fight him and after you knock the shit out of him with the devil hand before he goes all RAHHHHH and lights everything near him on fire

I'm not sure if this has been asked yet, but does anyone else feel that Nero is a bit overpowered for this demo? I don't recall the enemies being so easy in the first DMC. Even fire horse isn't too bad.

Looked it up online, and you are correct. So if you want all 3, box set is probably the way to go.

well, you use your devil arm to punch him away when he's all down helpless with no flames
then if for some reason he still isn't far enough, BACKFLIP AWAY
or just walk back while revving your sword charges up

Okay, that makes some sense. And hey, if I remember my experience with DMC1 and 3 well enough, 5 seconds is long enough for me to get killed a lot of different ways.
Someone explain to me how the hell to properly use Exceed, I can't figure that shit out.
Also, I think I'm gonna get the PS3 version 'cause I'm used to that controller from all my DMC3 time. Is there any reason I should get the 360 version instead?
I'm not sure if this has been asked yet, but does anyone else feel that Nero is a bit overpowered for this demo? I don't recall the enemies being so easy in the first DMC. Even fire horse isn't too bad.
It's easy because it's a demo. A demo's purpose is to draw in new players instead of scaring them away with difficulty (DMC3 casual players complained to no end about this). All the reviews so far have said the game is ridiculously hard.

This can only be a good thing.
So long as they have a "complete idiot" difficulty for me starting out, I'm glad.

I just want checkpoints before the bosses.
I saw a 'Continue' option greyed out on the game over screen, so I'd assume it's got a checkpoint system.

Well with the new retry system they added in DMC3:SE, I really doubt they would go back to the frustrating yellow orb system.
- Not a revolution, but great and way better than the previous iterations
- Deep fighting system
- Five levels of difficulty
- The camera is slightly problematic at times (seriously, this is the one thing they can't get right in this series)
- You get to play as Dante (minor spoiler, but still)
from Mission 12.
- Nero is fuckawesome to play as, though Dante still has his badass charm
- The scenery could have been better, but I think they are being nitpicky with this one
- Sometimes you have to play through the same levels.
- Fighting is mind-blowingly and eye-shatteringly fun
People wondering which version looks better it's pretty much a wash. Draw distance seemed farther in the PS3 version but that is not really much of an issue in this game since most of where you fight seems rather arena-ish with an elevated view. Textures seemed of similar quality with minor differences that may have just been tricks of my eye. In the PS3 version the textures on the demon hand seemed better, while the demon Beriel seemed to be nicer looking on the 360 version (PS3 over hdmi, 360 over component to a 1080p tv).
I can see this game swaying people with the achievement aspect of the game since the game visually works well on both systems. I must say however that the game seems to be easier to control with the six-axis controller. I am a huge fan of the 360 controller in pretty much every respect (especially shooters) but for this game it seemed more comfortable to pull off combos and such with the ps3 contoller. Just my 2c.

Am I the only one who thinks having "attack" mapped on the Y-Button on the 360 controller is a bit awkward? It takes some getting used to, or at least it took me some getting used to.

no
the only thing that was sort of awkward was the right bumper being used for lock on, but i got used to it
It'd be a lot more comfortable if it was on the right trigger imo, I've never played a DMC game before though so i'm not sure if that would be used for anything else in the full game.
It took me a few tries to beat the boss but I really enjoyed it, deffinately got it on my to buy list now

I really like the overcharge thing with the left trigger. It's like trying to rev up a motorcycle or a weed whacker. It's badass.

It pretty much comes down to game pad preference which is great IMO for multiplatform games. I dig choice. Not to mention if you have OCD and must have all the DMC games on one platform Besides the achievements are probably hard as hell for your average casual fan like me.
