Gizmondo - Rising Again in 2008 "Mafia Front 2 Electric Boogaloo"
GIZMONDO MAKING A COMEBACK - WE WILL FINALLY HAVE SOME NEW MATERIAL TO WORK WITH
All that's up at the moment is a flash intro. And even that's rubbish and doesn't work very well. If this is an accurate teaser of what's to come, many boots shall be filled over the coming months.
They're already being half-hearted about it and can't be bothered to think up names of their own for things. Very promising!
This odd message means it's either a joke or is going to be an even more amusing disaster thanthelasttime.
How is it possible to rise "again" when, initially, it didn't rise above the level of industry joke? Roll on the Gizmondo comeback! Can we be highly-paid consultants with company cars, please?
The gizmondo is an odd one. Edge, the closest thing to an industry magazine that is still readable, was always very optimistic about the Gizmondo, doing specials and previews galore on it. I guess on paper it's a pretty decent pitch. If it was the Nintendo Gizmondo or even the Sony or Microsoft Gizmondo, it probably would've worked. In principal, there's nothing wrong with the machine itself, in practice, what the fuck do these guys know about launching a handheld entertainment system onto the market when they don't even have any experience with set-top entertainment systems?
I think their most experienced team member is the product designer who previously created design classics such as the ZX Spectrum and some old-school Sinclair Calculator. Genuine design classics, but over 25 years old.
Actually there were some really cool Gizmondo projects out there that I wish had come to light, for example the game that used its built-in webcam to overlay little towers onto the screen, like an RTS on your desk. I think it was simply called Catapult, look for it on Youtube. Very neat.

I say we add to the threat title "Mafia Front 2 Electric Boogaloo".
I've been to the Gizmondo store, back when I was in the press thing they were going to send me a demo unit and a bunch of game cards to preview, they went under shortly after.

More or less.
Didn't the head of the company land in jail after wrecking a million-dollar car? Is he still there?

It was Eurogamer's news stories yesterday that had me laughing, with three news headlines spaced out through the day, reading something like:
"Former Gizmondo exec released from jail"
"Rumours of Gizmondo revival"
"Gizmondo revival confirmed"
edit: Mr Picard, take us away, warp-factor 'facepalm'
