Translated as "Lost: The Way Home", the game is scheduled for release on
February 26, 2008 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. I knew it was coming, but not this soon.
A game based on the amazing television series Lost, created by the guys who made Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, Assassin's Creed, and everything else awesome.
Why should I have any sort of faith in a licensed game?
Honestly, it's really tough to. But the fact that the last really good licensed game (Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie) came from Ubisoft, plus the Montreal office's past track record, is more than enough proof for me that the game will be at least decent.
The game will be split up into seven "episodes", planned out by Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, most likely each one ending with the LOST logo on-screen like usual. The catch? It's not a week-long dick-tease this time.
Any of the TV show's actors participating in it?
Well, don't expect to see any mo-capped Jackfaces. The actors are mostly second-tier characters, though the inclusion of Ben and Desmond is very nice indeed. Confirmed actors participating with the game are Michael Emerson (Benjamin Linus), Andrew Divoff (Mikhail Bakunin), Yunjin Kim (Sun-Hwa Kwon), Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond Hume), Emilie de Ravin (Claire Littleton), and M.C. Gainey (Tom).
A game based on Lost? How could this possibly work?
As for the gameplay, I'm terrible at explaining things, so I'll let Wikipedia do it!
The player is cast as a previously unseen survivor, Elliott, a photojournalist with amnesia. Gameplay will involve Resident Evil-style fetch quests and puzzle solving. Flashbacks will be an integral part of the storyline. Exploring locations seen in the show and interacting with main characters from the show will also be a major part of the game. Appearances by The Others, the "Smoke Monster" and the Black Rock have also been confirmed by the game's developers. Trading with other survivors and taking photos with a camera are part of the gameplay.
And now for some (Xbox 360) pictures!

Okay, so maybe the screenshots don't look amazing or anything, but they also don't look particularly bad either. I might be anticipating the game a little too much, but anything that will hopefully give some sort of insight into Lost is good enough for me. After the series is over, hopefully I'll be able to pick up the game and notice things that later on became significant.

I don't much expect the game to be...well, GOOD. I'm trying to see it as an extension of the viral marketing campaign type stuff.
It's going to suck, but I'm going to buy it.
I'm only JUST getting in to Lost, I'm behind absolutely everyone in the world, ever! I've got another 4 episodes of Season 1 to watch, then the entire of Season 2 and 3. Enjoying it up to now, although I'm struggling to see how they'll drag the concept out over 6 or 7 seasons.

They didn't want it to be that way. They originally wanted to end it with the third season, but the studio was like, "yo yo yo, this shit be making us lots of money." Seasons four, five, and six will be the final seasons. Each one will be 16 episodes, so 48 more new episodes to go.
Hence why season 1 was brilliant, 2 was mostly just okay (though it had some great parts), and the first half of season 3 sucked horribly while the second half was back to being brilliant.
Which also leads me to wonder how thoroughly the show's writers were involved with the game.

Also, what the hell? When I linked those pics last night, they didn't require IGN registration...
I'm looking forward to the game the same way I looked forward to the 24 game. If I didn't have such a raging boner for 24, I would have hated the game, but being able to play through a season as JB was fantastic. If the LOST game is as good as the 24 game, I'll be pleased
I love, love, love the second half S3. And the last ep of the first half.
But so much of it felt like Sawyer + Kate SEXUAL TENSION LOL LOL. I really felt like this focus on their relationship and their situation took away dramatically from the show's momentum.
...which kicked right back into gear in the last ep of the first half. Wow. After that point, it was AMAZING.
I dunno, I kinda like the idea, but it's always weird to see faces you recognize rendered in-game. They'll just never look quite right. I'd almost rather the player start off alone, off on another corner of the island or something.
Not me. The whole "look! we discovered ANOTHER random group of people on this rock!" bit kinda wears thin after a while.
