I don't know who SPI is, but I suspect that this will be epic.
Last battle tournament came down to Spex and Spi... I think that says enough about who Spi is. Still, I'm not quite sure how to pronounce his name... is it Spi like pee Spi like eye?

I'm excited. I loved squid and multimoog's battle that I saw at the battle forums probably more than half a year ago. It was epic.

No, you see some of us speak this language called "ENGLISH" rather than a butchered mess of bastardised words you might know as "American English"
Colour, Honour, Grey, Analogue, metre, Z pronounced "Zed" YOU'LL NEVER TAKE ME ALIVE! *rides off into the distance with a dictionary under his arm*

Really? Then would you kindly pronounce "aluminum" for me? Please note the presence and/or absence of certain vowels towards the end of the word... Now let's move on to the pronunciation of words ending in a vowel (such as "idea") ... I propose that if you are pronouncing letters that are not in the word then it is YOU who are bastardizing the language...
And there is only one way to settle this. A forum battle, obviously. Since I am a photographer and not a drawer (not pronounced drawrer) then I nominate Squidbunny to represent American (aka "real") English. Now you two just need a thread to duke it out in...

You mean "Aluminium?"
At the risk of derailing this further I always giggle when americans say aluminium on tv or something. It's so absurd what they do to that word.

I'm confused ... english pronounce "idea" the same as americans surely. And Aluminium is the way most of the world except the US say it. It was initially named Aluminum by someone who didn't even manage to discover it, then named aluminium to conform with the rest of the chemical names, and then later America decided they didn't like it anymore so changed it back to aluminum, much to the amusement of pretty much everyone else.
:P
But it was both first and currently spelled Aluminum ...
And the link under "idea" in my post is to a wiki on "Intrusive-R" ... when the letter R is pronounced at the end of a word that ends in a vowel (many British people pronounce words like idea as idear ... Check the Beatles' "A Day in the Life" (yes I get this from the wiki) where they pronounce an R at the end of saw).
blah blah blah. I'm just pokin' fun. We 'Mericans really do take liberties with Lady English - the kinds that would make a proper bloke blush.

Ah I just read that wiki, quite interesting. I never even thought about it, but surely most languages do the intrusive r thing? Otherwise pronouncing stuff like "idea about" sounds ... well, less fluid. The words will either blend together into ideabout, or you need to make a pause in your breathing which is a pain.
Anyway the english variation that americans speak is actually closer to olde worlde english anyway. It's just that the word aluminum sounds so silly to us i guess
