Recommend some VC games for my nephew, pretty please

Next weekend my sisters boy is visiting. I was hoping some of you with kids, littlebrothers, or just great knowledge, could recommend me some virtual console games. He is four years old, but he and his sister share a ps2, so he can handle games marked 7+ pretty well.

I have a NES from ages past, with Super Mario Bros. So I'll force him to play that of course ;-). I also have a bunch of other games for it, but I doubt he'll like them (Mega Man II is a bit too hard).

I was thinking something like Super Mario Bros. 3 for NES. Maybe Yoshi's Island (haven't played that in ages). Basicly I'm looking for some real gems, which he will enjoy alot. They don't have to have great replay value, just some hours of great fun and simplistic gameplay.

If you suggest some of co-op games I'll probably buy an extra Wii remote(altough not an extra classic controller, so NES / TurboGrafx-16 / SEGA / NeoGeo co-op for now. I'm thinking Bomberman 93' might be a good choice?)

A few questions:

1. I'm buying Zack & Wiki. Is this game fun, if you're just watching?

2. For Super Mario Galaxy, do you need a Wii remote + Nunchuk to play co-op, or just an extra Wii remote?

Thanks for reading.

ps. I live in Europe, so Europe VC games only D:

2P in Galaxy only requires an extra Wiimote.

Zack and Wiki is point and click so really there's no limit to the amount of people that can crowd around and suggest things. I think it would be too hard for a 4 year old alone though.

Do they have Streets of Rage or Golden Axe in Europe? If so, those were some of my favorite games from childhood.

Mario Galaxy's 2p mode only requires another Wii remote, not another nunchuck.

    BRB with suggestions for VC.

OK, so .. here are some games that I think are pretty simple, but are still pretty good. Or at least simple to get into:

    Bomberman 93
    Bubble Bobble
    Kirby's Adventure
    Mario Kart 64
Super Mario Bros 1 and 3
    Super Mario world
    Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, 3. I prefer 2 and 3 over 1.

Maybe Ristar, but it's a little more complicated than Super Mario Bros. There's also the Bonk games, but they're a little bit more difficult I think than the Mario games.

Racing games are usually easy to get into, too, like 1080 or Waverace or Fzero/X, but I think Mario Kart 64 is fun for everyone no matter what.

If there is one game series popping up on the VC that needs more followers it is Wonderboy.

I suggest WonderBoy V: Wonderboy in Monster World (Sega Genesis) It is also available as "The Dynastic Hero" (Turbo Duo/PCEngine CD) - It's very similar to Zelda II or Faxanadu. It's very colorful and straightforward to play, without being too hard. It would probably work well for a young gamer.

Wonderboy III: Dragon's Curse is also available, and quite good.

Wonderboy III*: Monster Lair is apparently on VC also, although it plays more like Adventure Island (which was actually the first Wonderboy game)

*Yup, there's two #3's in the series... but no #4 O_o

Kirby's Adventure is probably the best NES game for him. Fun, colorful graphics without the backbreaking difficulty typically tied to NES games of the era.

Pokemon Snap is the first thing that comes to mind. Is that out in Europe?

Wonderboy in Monster World requires reading ability so I'm thinking it's out for a 4 year old.

Sonic 2 would be my recommendation, just because it's what I played when I was for. Simple, Bright, Colourful, Awesome Music and it's just a brilliant game in general. Plus, if he's having trouble he can play as Tails who is invincible.

I'd say definitely go for that then. It's simplistic and fun. I don't know how big Pokemans are with the real young kids anymore, but surely they must still be pretty popular?
