I'm trying to remember a game... (I don't think it's out yet)
It was a mystery game that I think Gabe and Tycho praised that takes place in some dark city and you use a soundbox to...defeat enemies? Or something like that. Any help would be awesome.
I'm going to Genericize this thread up!
and ask my own "Name that Game" question.
I need to know what Arcade Game this was and if it's available for any platform.
It was a game that was cartoonish and science fiction based.
You took the role of some guy rescuing humans from various space stations, taking them from evil robots (no, this was not Robotron). The view was 3rd-person and you moved around on a 3D board angled towards the viewer and I believe you could jump (I think) and shoot a laser pistol.
There were interstitial boards where you jumped into a ship and had to fly (left to right) down a maze in a cave to the next section.
The characters were very... near-Fallout Pip-Boy in quality and theme. Meaning, it had a very 1950's bend to the sci-fi.
Okay, I've got one I've been thinking about for the last 2-3 days. It's an NES game, you play as a ninja but it isn't Ninja Gaiden. I think you have throwing knives for ranged attacks (not sure about that) and a short-ranged stab move for close-combat stuff. The boss of the first stage (a city) is 'Tiny' who is a huge fat guy who tries to jump on you. Later in the game (the 2nd stage, I think) you get to fly on a sort of kite-like contraption while other ninjas attempt to intercept you on their own kites. There were a number of secret rooms where you could rescue hostages and I think get power ups that somehow increased your abilities. I remember thinking it was kind of a shitty game, but I'm curious about it.
Tempted to say Yie Ar Kung Fu, but that's a fighting game.
Your game sounds familiar. All the ninjas and characters are chibi (stumpy and cartoonish), right? I remember this game and I did play it a lot; might have even owned it.

Now to go locate some sort of "Spaceknight".

I recall it was a fun game.
It was fun.
Ages ago (on my old PC) I had a cool Ray Tracing tech demo.
IIRC, it was a cool stationary background, with a sphere in the middle of the screen.
And incredible lighting.
I have looked for it again, but can't find it. Any ideas?
Now that I think about it, Kid Niki was frustratingly hard, and I borrowed it from a friend.
