So why don't we talk about games released from week to week?

I don't know why, but I thought it'd be cool to have a weekly thread to discuss the games that were released in that particular week. Being relatively new to the joint, I don't know if this has been done before or what have you, and I think search is still down so, I offer to you the releases of the week of February 5th. Discuss what you like:

PC
20 Questions, Dance! Online, First Battalion Gold Edition, Forgotten Riddles: The Mayan Princess, Medieval II Total War Gold Edition, Merv Griffin's Crosswords, My Horse & Me, Sins of a Solar Empire, Spaceforce Captains, The Spiderwick Chronicles

PlayStation 2
Karaoke Revolution Presents American Idol Encore, Karaoke Revolution Presents American Idol Encore Microphone Bundle, Nobunaga's Ambition: Rise to Power, The Spiderwick Chronicles, Twisted Metal: Head-On: Extra Twisted Edition

PlayStation 3
Devil May Cry 4, Devil May Cry 4 Collector's Edition, Turok

Xbox 360
Culdcept Saga, Devil May Cry 4, Devil May Cry 4 Collector's Edition, Karaoke Revolution Presents American Idol Encore Microphone Bundle, The Spiderwick Chronicles, Turok

Wii
Karaoke Revolution Presents American Idol Encore Microphone Bundle, My Horse & Me, The Spiderwick Chronicles

DS
Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles, My Horse & Me, Pets & Claws Pet Resort, Puppy Palace, Real Soccer 2008 (GameStop Exclusive), The Spiderwick Chronicles, Zoo Tycoon 2 DS

PSP
Downstream Panic!

Is Medieval II any good? I've been trying to find a good sim/strategy game that involved warfare and I think that might be the ticket. I'm also looking for the type of game like a Sim City I guess, where the technology gets better over time. Or something. What do I know.

That's an awful lot of stuff to discuss in one thread.

Medieval II is generally considered to be good. It was a bit buggy at release and some people prefer Rome or even the first Medieval but it's still a good game and patches fix most of the bugs. Just ignore the Merchants, I don't think they're ever going to be useful. The Gold Edition represents a very good purchase because the Kingdoms expansion adds a lot of cool stuff and it's really rather cheap. It looks like it costs the same price as the expansion alone cost a few months ago.

Also worth looking up - Total War: Eras, which is a box set of Shogun, Medieval (the first one) and Rome as well as all of their expansion packs plus some other usual collectors edition box-set type stuff.

It's stunning how many PS2 games are still coming out on a weekly basis. Yeah most of them are shovelware, but still.

Mods tend to strike down mega threads, that's my assumption, at least.

But if you got it cleared, good show.

My room mate might be getting Turok. I hope for his sake that somehow the demo was screwed up.

This is kind of the opposite of a megathread, though (a microthread?), since it's grouping a whole bunch of games together into one spot. Personally, I think if enough people are interested in Game X, someone will make a thread to talk about it and others will be interested enough to keep it afloat.

Though I am curious about Assassin's Creed DS. If someone picks it up, he/she should make a thread to give impressions.

I mean most games that we're all excited about get their own threads, right?

So we wouldn't be talking about, say, DMC4 or Turok in this thread, 'cause they've got their own threads.

So this would be more of a shovelware thread?

There sure is a shit load of fake pet games on the DS. I'm guessing that stuff is a serious cash cow.

I rented Turok, beat it, played multiplayer.. it was very enjoyable. It's not worth 60$, but it would definitely make a good 20/30$ purchase down the road.

God I hate Turok. A lot. I would rather play through the Acclaim original again before giving one more minute of my time to that game. Unfortunately I need to complete one last area before I can vomit out a review.

Now... If you were to compare Turok to one of the older ones... Which one would you compare it to?

    Turok
    Turok II
    Turok Rage Wars
    or
    Turok the Gamecube/PS2/XBX one? :)

I remember checking out their teaser at 06's E3... so it took them two years and they still couldn't muster up a good game? That's funny as hell.

I think weekly release threads (or even monthly release) could work with a bit of tweaking. Instead of listing ALL the releases, focus on the games that aren't obviously shovelware (no one wants to talk about Karaoke Revolution Presents American Idol Encore or the latest batch of pet games on the DS that aren't Nintendogs), and also not bother with the big releases that probably have their own threads.

Once you've narrowed it down to low-profile games that are potentially worthwhile, put some info on the games (screens, brief description). It could make for a nice "Here are some games that probably flew under your radar this week/month" thread.

Of course, if there are no games left over after taking out the shovelware and AAA titles, then just don't have a thread.

Yea it was pretty average at the hanger last year at E3, and the full game turns out to be every bit the same, with level design that run the diverse rainbow forgettable to terrible, and characters that go out of their way to be unlikable. Really I can't finish the game and this coverage soon enough so I can file the game away.

I've been looking forward to Altair's Chronicles with a strangely high degree of interest. Ships today, should be out tomorrow.

It looks to be a pretty great companion to the console versions.

edit: Yes, I'll be buying this game tomorrow immediately after school. I can make a thread if you like, with my impressions.

In addition to technical advancements and an exclusive bonus level for the original Twisted Metal: Head-On, the PS2 version includes "The Black Levels", 4 never before played levels from the Twisted Metal: Black universe. Finally, explore a new twist in bonus content – control the most popular Twisted Metal character, SWEET TOOTH, in an special interactive level filled with behind the scenes content and historic factoids direct from the development team.

I'm actually curious on the American Idol Wii game - it would prevent me from having to rebuy a PS2 just so the wife can play Singstar. Anybody know anything about it?

EDIT: Just wanted to add I love the idea of a weekly "New Release" thread.

    Check the Culdcept Saga thread.

Basically it's a scary addictive board/card game with more then a little ties to Monopoly. Crazy popular in Japan.

Not much at all. Ubi has been mentioning it to a few gaming website, but that's been about it.

They released a press pack a week or two ago.
