That little flying guy at the end has the most brilliantly terrible voice acting ever.

Get a guy to say his lines completely oblivious to context and character... then apply liberal amounts of cheesy vocal effects. Gold!

I just saw Zeal in the PSX intro.

I always forget how fucking cool Zeal is.

I think it's my favourite part of the game. It just feels so magical. Like any other game would have been happy ending before you get to Zeal, and still be proud of itself. But not Chrono Trigger. They save somewhere that is badass and nothing like the places you've been before for towards the end.

Indeed, as a matter of fact I have Zeal rasterbated for when I set up my room of awesome in the next place I move to. Behold:
    dsc01390tr7.th.jpg

When I first played Chrono Trigger, I had no idea how it would progress. I figured I was going to save the princess and that would be it. Cool game. But then I end up in some sort of post-apocalyptic wasteland. And then I have to go back to stop Magus. And then, and then, until it climaxes at Zeal. There really hasn't been an rpg approaching the storytelling of Chrono Trigger.

I watched the first video so far and loved it. I too played this game as a rental exclusively back in the SNES days, both by myself and with my cousin. It was so long ago that I don't remember much of the game, but these videos and the commentary are brilliant so this is perfect.

Plus, my cousin and I would always sing the Gato song just like you do SimBen, so that brought back memories.

    I haven't decided if that's a good thing yet or not. ;-)

The video of me doing above average on "Typing of the Dead" I just uploaded was too epic. I broke it.

Oh no! You made Stage6 suffer like G did!

I think you can get outside that way

To keep you guys entertained whilst Simben is waiting on Stage6 fixing itself.

Just to prove that even dyslexics can do above average on Typing of the Dead

Also ironic was the fact that you misspelled your name during name-entry. A suitable diversion while I try to get my SNES working again. I'm in dire need of new controllers, and a Chrono Trigger cart with less Years of Dust on it.

Akira Toryiama and Square should have made a Chrono Trigger anime. It could have followed their adventures after the game.

Or hell, just convert the whole game into an anime series. It's been one of those geek wet-dreams I've had since forever.

Speaking of everyone's adventures after Chrono Trigger...
Even before Chrono Cross came out, I've always thought that the greatest way the story could continue in a sequel would be if a time-traveler from the new, good future (our protagonist) went back to 1000 AD and somehow accidentally prevented Crono from meeting Marle... Say, HE bumps into her instead of Crono. This proceeds to mess up history something fierce and un-kill Lavos, negating the protagonist's very existence, and the whole game would then be spent trying to fix that one mistake, or possibly that's just the first quest, and then through a series of events you end up crossing paths with the CT1 party at various critical junctions and witnessing events from different vantage points... maybe trying to prevent someone from actively trying to mess up everything. I dunno, it just always somehow seemed like the obvious, only way one could do a Chrono Trigger sequel (yes, I was disappointed by Cross, but let's not go there). Am I the only one for whom it was obvious it had to be like that?

Well, not an anime series, but maybe an OVA. I'd even forgive them if they had Crono talk.

A direct sequel, yes. In fact, I thought of something similar when I heard the name "Chrono Break". It implies a break in time. I thought that, perhaps, this other time traveler was malicious from the start and would wind up being the main protagonist (Or possibly the main protagonist for the first half of the game, with something far more sinister going on in the second half). I figured you could reunite the Trigger cast (Definitely Crono, Marle, Lucca, Schala and Magus, and maybe make Glenn, Ayla and Robo optional), throw in a few new time periods, and maybe even run with another alternate world. Can you imagine a game with two or three alternate dimensions with multiple time periods? Also definitely throw in new characters, but only a handful. I love Cross, but the roster was a bit daunting.

They made a OVA, I've got it somewhere, but I've never watched it.

But yeah, some info about it available here:
    http://www.fantasyanime.com/squaresoft/ctanime.htm

    As quoted from the site:
'Ah, the Chrono Trigger OVA (a.k.a. the Chrono Trigger anime). This was a 20-minute special released exclusively at a Japanese trade show sometime during the 90's. The anime is a spoof poking fun at the game. It's really cute! ^_^ I recommend viewing it. Take note that the Chrono Trigger anime has no relation whatsoever to Chrno Crusade or the anime sequences included in Final Fantasy Chronicles.'

Being that this one stars a Kilwala, a Nu and possibly a frog (I'm not sure anymore), it epic doesn't count. It doesn't count in a way that makes Radical Dreamers look canon.

Saying this counts as canon is like saying the Smash Bros. board the platforms minigame counts as Metroid canon.

    No.

Is anyone else having problems w/ Stage6 only wanting to work correctly when downloading the entire video, and not wanting to stream it? IE and FireFox both choke and die when I try to play the video via the play button in the browser. And yes, I've got the latest, greatest DivX updates.

Well, nothing's gonna happen until I get back home at around 4 anyway, so I'll see then. Dailymotion is pretty much out of the question because of its stifling filesize and video length limits. Hopefully Stage6 will work by then.

Either pronunciation is probably acceptable. It's not clear whether the name is closer to "Magi" or "Mage". Arbitrarily I always called him MAYgus.

The lack of updates is disheartening. Too many Let's Play's fizzle out without any warning after just a few updates.

Most of the time if someone quits an LP, it's due to the author thinking nobody cares. This is why if you watch an LP, please post in the thread. It's very disheartening to someone if they're going through all the work of recording and it looks like nobody cares. This LP is not suffering that problem though so I doubt anyone needs to worry about this being abandoned.

Also, don't expect an update every day or every 2-3 days. For most normal let's plays, once a week is a good schedule. It's not very common to get an update every day.

Don't worry people, I'm not abandoning you. :)

I got kinda busy yesterday, and when I realized Stage6 still didn't work, I just kinda gave up and split the rest of my evening between playing Killer7 and watching Prison Break and Terminator. :P

Annnd now I'm at school again till 3:15, and I can't even LOOK if Stage6 now works (it's blocked from here). I'm still pretty reluctant to use Google again considering it murdered my baby back there. *sigh*

And I'd just like to say, thank you all so much for your support, you guys are the best! Gilder's totally right, I was very nervous when I started this that nobody would care, but this is obviously not the case, and in fact, here we are up to 9 pages with only 3 videos up... I guess I just picked a universally beloved game to LP. :P

    EDIT: I mean 10. 10 pages.

Oh, and about Magus: I, too, used to pronounce it Mah-gus (considering that's how it'd be pronounced in French), but I later learned that it was the singular form of Magi, which is pronounced May-gi, so I corrected myself.

Fun fact: in Japanese, Magus is named Maou, which means Demon Lord, and it's treated more as a title than a name. I guess you could see his English name as such, too.

    That makes sense, since

I actually only thought about it recently that Mah-gus was incorrect. May-gus makes a hell of a lot more sense, especially as a title.

I still haven't corrected myself, though. Everyone I know calls him Mah-gus, so I've stuck with that. Plus, it's hard to correct a 13 year old habit.

JRPG character name pronunciation has always been a little fuzzy for me. Names like "Frog" and "Robo" were nice and easy, but until I heard SimBen pronounce Marle's name "Marl" I always said it "Marley". "Marl" sounds right too though, so who knows? Also, CRO-no or Craw-no?

Magus was easy for me. I went to Catholic school for about 6 years when Chrono Trigger came out. Every christmas time, we would hear the story of the "Three Wise Men" or "Three Magi" pronounced "May-Jai". Being the trusting little catholic I was, I assumed they were right and always called him "May-Gus".

I have always thought of it as Kurouno (CRO-no), like the Japanese pronunciation. Also, like chronometer.

I always pronounced Magus as (Mah-gus), but I just realized that I'm wrong too and it's more likely May-gus. I was going by the Japanese pronunciation again, but that's not even his name in Japanese!

"Craw"-no for me(usually)...since I say chronological in the same way. And, I've always said "Marley" like Vin, but I don't get too hung up on these things. I don't even notice it when you say just Marl since I never exactly knew(or cared?) in the first place.

Honestly, I think I randomly switch between may and mag, like maggot, for ol' Magus. Quite similar sounding to me, anyways.

    And Lucca is definitely Luh-Kay.

It's definitely LOO-Ka. I used to pronounce it has LOO-sia when I first started playing. I was 9 at the time, though, and quickly realized that I was wrong.

CRO-no is always how I pronounced Crono. As for Marle. . .I used to pronounce it MAR-lee, but, again, I corrected myself years ago to Marl.

What about Ayla? I've always pronounced it like it looks. Emphasis on the long A-la. Is that right?
