So I'm thinking of getting an Archos or an iPod or something.

But I have a problem with the battery life, the Archos and iPod Touch have wide screens (I'd get a iPhone if it was available in Canada), which are perfect because of the wide screen. But have an average of a 5 hour battery life.

The iPod Classic (cnet says) has about 8 hours battery life. But the screen is ass tiny.

Gaaah I'm racking my brain over this, help me H/A :(.

And to those who will tell me "do you really need more than 5 hours", answer is: I do. I need as close to 10 hours as possible.

I am enjoying my Zune 80gig very, very much. Playing music the battery lasts well over 10 hours.

If you have a PC, give the Zune a shot. If you have a Mac, then your options are severely limited.

I had a huge-ass Archos back in the day when it was a full-sized 3.5" hard drive in a blue and grey plastic case...those were the days.

Go to a Best Buy (or whatever the Canadia equivalent is) and fiddle around with the players and find what you like best. You can usually find an extended life battery pack if you need it to play longer than the default time. This one claims to add 14 hours of additional audio play: http://www.amazon.com/Griffin-TuneJuice-Battery-Backup-iPod/dp/B000IN022K/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1202489536&sr=1-4

My roommate convinced me to get a Creative Zen V, and it's been great. Inexpensive, solid, and hasn't had any problems so far (I've had mine a couple months, he's had his for a year or two.) It also has great battery life, which is one of the main reasons I got it.

It is a tiny flash player though, which basically means limited (mine's 8GB, I think that's the highest) storage, and a tiny screen that you won't want to watch video on (though it does support it, and the screen is OLED and pretty nice, just small). But, if you only want music and 8GB is enough, check it out.

Hell, I'm gonna check that out. I've been looking into getting an ipod, but that looks to be much better bang for my buck since I dont give a shit about seeing video.

Well I was looking at battery life for playing videos since both Archos' and iPods all have like 30++ hour music life, so I'm not too worried about that.

Ah, I wasn't sure if you were looking for video or not. Disregard the Zen then.

Wawkin, that's exactly the position I was in. Wanted something small, cheap, with good battery, and this fit the bill. Be careful which model you get though, as they have different features but they all look basically the same. The FM radio and video playing abilities aren't on all models, and there are different capacities from 1-8 GB.

The Zen M plays video, is very sturdy, has a modestly sized screen and the battery lasts a long time.

I really like my zune 80. If you have a media center PC and Vista, you can transfer recorded TV to the zune and watch it later. The zune's screen is horizontal for video play so that makes it pretty good.

Hi guys, quick question about the Zune. What is their software like now? I heard that it was worse than itunes before, now?

I have a first gen clix. It's better than a nano (little fatty or slim). Supports radio, voice recording, radio recording, video, ogg, and has a slick interface. One of the best (if not the best) reviewed compact mp3 players.

Second gen is slimmer, has an OLED, and an 8gb version.

I have the zune pass so the software is great for me. I can play a full track while signed in and it lets me see if it's an album or single I wanna download. The transfer is pretty quick. Doing the download of full albums, it downloads 2 tracks at a time, and I usually download 3-5 albums a night. I also have it interfaced with my recorded TV shows and those take about 25 minites or so, each episode to download. The things that I like more than iTunes are the album art is automatically displayed, I can download more than 1 song at a time, and i can check to see what's downloading and what's not. I really like the zune software, but I never used the 1.0 version to compare it to. I definately like it more than iTunes, and I"m looking to unload my 60gb iPod video. The zune with zunepass has been awesome for me.
