Metal Warriors has been mentioned, but I just want to mention how awesome the multiplayer was. The "Party Game" genre really didn't exist back then, but if it did this would have been it's genre defining game.
Just a quick search on youtube turned up an example.
I never had an SNES as a kid, always wanted one, friends and I would rent one for B-party or sleep over.
Personal favs:
Mario Kart
BomberMan
Metroid
Super Contra
Secret of Mana
Super Mario All
Super R-Type.
Killer Instinct
Now that i'm older, aka have disposable income, I've taken up collecting games and games systems. I don't do ebay, but hit 2nd hand stores and yard sales. Stuff that i've picked up and are just fun:
Earthbound - strange game, but fun
Final Fight 2 (jap version) - the case was modified via drill to get it to work.
Zombie ate my neighbors -'nuff said
Super Contra ( found literally a week after i picked it up on VC)
Doom - probably the crappiest version of doom, no floor or ceiling textures. But it has a red case!
FYI if you still play on an orginal SNES, the gamecube S-cable works! It gives an excellent picture.
And not to derail this thread too much, but has anyone played the pre-equal to Cybnator? It was called "target earth" and on the gensis. I just need to know if anyone has made it past the first friggin mission.
Super Bomberman (all three), Megaman 7, and Megaman Soccer were my three most-often rented games, with X2 coming in pretty close there.
I didn't know the Gamecube's cable gave better quality. I'm using the original Nintendo RF switch that's hooked into the coax port on the back of my TV. Before that I used my PlayStation's cable. I think I'll try that.

Wait. Back up. Can you use a PS2/PSX A/V cable with a SNES?
I could never beat the old chinese master in Super Punch Out. I never was able to figure him out
You mean that kick-boxing motherfucker who would jump to the corner and fly at you with a cross-kick? The timing was very precise on that, and he was indeed a fucker.
I had bigger problems with Bald Bull, I couldn't get the timing of the punch right when he was doing his pathetic charge.
No, there was an old chineese guy who fought with a staff... in a boxing competition. Fits well with the kick-boxing motherfucker and the masked asshole who actually spit in your face to blind you. What the fuck kind of boxing championship tournament is that?
Yup I was refering to Hoy Quarlow, which is the last match before the Bruiser brothers. I never did beat him.
Dragon Chan did gave me lot of troubles at first but now I can kick his ass easilly.

I have Target Earth. It is extremely hard, that is true. Back in the day I could get to maybe the third level. However, the game has a bug (or at least my copy does) that meant that one out of every 50 times I turned it on, I would be invincible. Hence, I have beaten the game, although I don't remember much.
I'm going to come out and say that most of my favorite SNES games came out early in its life - Actraiser being first and foremost. The sequel disappointed me, since I genuinely enjoyed the sim parts more than the action parts. I also am a big fan of F-Zero and Pilotwings.
I remember as a kid I had to choose between Secret of Evermore and Chrono Trigger. I chose the former, and I still kick myself a bit. Secret of Evermore is actually a pretty good game, though, as long as you don't compare it directly to the other Square games of the time.
All this Metal Warriors love makes me so happy. For years I thought that I was the only person who knew that game existed. So much fun was had on that. To this day, I can only get up to the level with the worm robot thing underground...

I managed to beat it once, but I've never been able to repeat it since. But.. isn't the underground worm robot from Cybernator? Or is it both? I get them easily confused.
I have a lot of trouble with the Alaska level in Metal Warrior (Where you have to destroy the planetary defense gun). Nothing in it's that hard, but sheer attrition seems to get me before I reach the boss.
As practically the only Square game to make it to European shores during the SNES era (and we still haven't seen Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG etc etc) Secret of Mana is fondly remembered. I played through the whole game with two friends which was top fun. I never got all the level 9 weapon orbs though, even after hundreds of hours grinding in the flying fortress.

I am pretty sure I never beat it, or even made a really serious attempt. I just played endless hours of multiplayer with my best friend at the time. He'd usually go for a Havoc, and I'd get a Nitro. Ah, the memories!
You know what game had excellent multiplayer?
Like, incredibly awesome?
Lemmings.
Oh hells yes. I'm quite sure I played hundreds of hours of multiplayer SNES Lemmings.
Oh no! poppopopopppopopopppoppopopopopoppopp
There is no greater feeling than to make enemy lemmings enter your base without having direct control over them, while using yours to keep your opponent from getting HIS lemmings into his own base!
The way multiplayer worked in this game was just perfect. Sure, you could just explode all around, but if you wanted to win, you had to think hard and fast.
Join Luke, Han and Chewbacca in their fierce war against the evil Empire. Battle tretcherous aliens. Pilot two vehicles in high speed, first person 3-D sequences. Fight your way through the wastelands of tatooine to the hostile streets of Mos Eisley and beyond. So grab your blaster, strap on your lightsaber, and take on the fight for galactic freedom!
Rip through the desert in Luke's landspeeder
Clash with aliens in the Mos Eisley Cantina
Blast menacing boss monsters and imperial stormtroopers
Attack Tie fighters in the trenches of the Death Star

Holy crap - it's a good movie licenced game..
Actually, it's very good and was one of the early release games to come out on the SNES. Super Star Wars is a mixture of platformer, shooter and intermittent mode-7 flying levels. Initially you get to control only Luke, but as the story progresses you get the choice of using both Han and Chewie as well.
The levels all have great variety and character to them and the change of pace brought about by the flying segments makes for a interesting diversion from the unforgiving platforming of many of the on-foot levels.
It's only really problem is that the game is REALLY hard. Seriously, I defy anyone to pick up this game and make it through without at least several dozen attempts and countless moments of red vision sweeping over them. The platforming elements are at times merciless and the endless respawns of enemies mean you never really get a breather.
Man. Now I am going to have to start having competition with my friends for Metal Warriors after watching that video. My best friend and I used to rent it every weekend and play the hell out of it. Worst part was the video chain sold all their SNES inventory when the GC came out, and neither of us heard about it. We could have bought every game in there for under a hundred bucks. and when they had metal warriors, chrono, and EB all for like 2 bucks a cart. It would have been epic.
When I was young, I would make Mario Paint animated pictures, and create these killer Mother's Day cards and things for other occasions. I thought they were cool, and my Mom seemed impressed. I wish I still had that cart so I could check those out again. I really can't believe there is no Mario Paint DS or Wii. Criminal.

That's not really Mario Paint.
Fail.

You just saved me like $30 worth of cables. I needed to buy new ones for my SNES and N64.

It depends on the size and quality of your TV, but it should give you a cleaner picture.
I still have to use the RF switch, though, or else I just get green lines on the screen.

I still have a Brazillian SNES, it works fine. It's just like the US one in all aspects. Just as ugly and clunky. I still love him so.
If you guys want, I can take a pic of its underbelly with the factory sticker in Portuguese.
Ahem.

Nope. But it's geting remade on the DS with co-op over Wi-Fi.
Same link, still not Mario Paint.

I didn't. What the heck is it?
i still can't believe i bought earthbound for $9
Oh, the wasted hours of our youth...most of it playing Mario Kart and Street Fighter 2...
Good times. The SNES deserves its reputation.
The bad guy theme in Star Wars.
Yeah. That tune.
