I just got a Creative Zen 8GB, and it worked just fine docking and transferring files and all that. But suddenly it screwed up and Windows refuses to recognize (or the Zen refuses to get itself recognized) the Zen. It'll do that "recognized!" sound that XP does but then the "USB disconnected" sound a second later. The only thing the Zen does is charge itself.
I tried downloading drivers for it but the Creative website has zero drivers for this player. The Zen Explorer doesn't see it, now I know my Device Manager sees it 'cause it says "CREATIVE ZEN" but with an exclamation point on it. So no go. I tried "uninstalling drivers" and it'll pop up for only for a brief 10 seconds, in which I tried to update the firmware (thinking that was the problem) but the firmware update takes at least 30+ seconds (not enough time).
I really love this player, the video lasts almost forever for this lil' guy, now I can exchange it to get a new one, but the hassle of it pisses me off.
Oh and I've tried using all USB ports/hub (I only have one) and none of them work, all other USB devices (mouse/keyboard, card reader etc).
I've had problems like this with my Zen V Plus. I thought it was just my computer being an asshole.
First thing's first: The install CD that came with my player did not work. Go to the Creative website and download the latest stuff, see if that works. Such a stupid problem, really.
Anyways, what I've got now is something like this: The Creative software wasn't doing it for me, so I uninstalled everything, except the plays-for-sure drivers that let you drag and drop files. Winamp, Windows Media Player and MediaMonkey all work with the player, so I just use MediaMonkey to transfer and tag files. You're probably better off doing something like that, especially if there's a music management program you already use.
I had the same problem with my Zen: Creative M Vision. You need to go into your list of USB ports and make sure you are allowing the player to connect for data transfer... I don't remember exactly how to do it, and I'm not on my normal computer so I can't look it up right now, but when I get home if you are still having trouble with it I'll look it up for you.
