My youngest son Peyton loves to watch Daddy play Zelda. In fact it drives me crazy as that's all he wants to do. "Daddy...can you play Zelda?" is what I get every other hour.
So as a result, I have finished Windwaker, almost done with Twilight Princess, started Phantom Hourglass, and I am sure we will get Ocarina of Time any minute now. I love the kid, but it's like I am in some video game hell restricted to playing that pussy whipped mother fucker in a stupid green suit --- FOR AN ETERNITY!!!
Anyway, I am sure there are worst things to do to keep him happy like a 30 hour marathon of Teletubbies or some other brain draining kid show. "Hey Peyton! Let's go to the ZOO!" "No Daddy...can you play Zelda?" O_o:...:
So to the point...he is turning seven and wants to have a wait for it...wait for it...A ZELDA PARTY! Ok, getting a cake with a tri-force symbol is obvious. But what else is there? Anyone? Anyone? Oh yeah, it's for about 15 kids too.
cupcakes with the Kokiri symbol in frosting on top
zelda placemats (print out a zelda-ish design on a placemat-sized piece of paper and have them laminated)
as party favors, if there was anyway you could get felt green hats (think santa hats, but green and no fuzzy ball), then fill them with candy. And then they can wear them!
This should run you about 50$ (20 cake, 10 on cupcakes, 20 on the favors)
A triforce shaped cake is a good idea. Perhaps some solid green party hats would be good too... They kind of look like link's hat, don't they?
I also remember my mom planning 'treasure hunts' at my birthday parties when I was about that age. Do you live in a house or some other place that has a big enough space that you could plan a treasure hunt? A zelda theamed treasure hunt would be awesome for a 7 year old and his 15 friends. If the kid likes wind waker alot, you could hide pieces of a 'sea chart' around your house, and once all the kids find all the pieces and put them together, the 'sea chart' could tell them where the treasure is, like in the dryer or something. The treasure could be party bags filled with candy and party favors or something.
Alternatively, if you have a yard, a pinata that vaguely resembled a zelda boss would be cool too. They could pretend that the baseball bat was the master sword

I like drawing, cartoons, cookies, and shiny pointy objects.
Though we just finished with Valentine's, you could always look for one of those heart shaped containers of candy and paint it so you have a proper 'heart container'. Extra life outside, delicious candy inside.
A number of neat party favours could also come out of this; boomerangs, a 'bow', and so forth. Some quick touch-ups to make them closer to the actual items and you're golden.
Oh, and before this happens, dear god, hide your pottery.
When the kids all file outside, hand the first one a bat and say "It's dangerous to go alone, take this!" Then have someone do the "doo doo doo dooooo" sound effect behind you for effect.
Wait. He's SEVEN? Why isn't HE playing Zelda. If I remember my childhood right, that's about the age I beat LoZ and was frustrated as boners by The Adventures of Link.

Why a bat?
Make a sword out of wood (or a bunch of swords, one for each kid) and let them beat on the pinata with those.

Personally I would not advise anyone to hand out several wooden swords or bats or anything to 7 year old boys hopped up on sugar for several hours. The concerns towards pottery are the same towards other 7 year olds, or cats.
Does Nerf still make toy swords? That would work a lot better safety wise and make the pinata a lot more difficult to defeat with a single strike.

Toy boomerangs, bows and arrows, and the like are pretty obvious, but some of the other parents may not appreciate the weapon stuff. Maybe toy boats (WW and PA)?
Could you set up stations with various game-based mini games?
Like you could have the kids piece together a map, as someone else suggested, on one station, another could hold a 'rupee' game (throwing rupees into various pots? It depends how creative you want to get with this), another station where you have to master a nerf-sword move and then fight another kid in a little ring. Some kind of block pushing game?
I'm suggesting small activity stations because I imagine it's going to be difficult to get a house full of 7 year olds to do any one thing cooperatively. Especially when sugar is involved.
The green hats are a great idea - I suggest buying some felt and sewing triangles together. Easy. You can hand them to the kids as they arrive. Also, red face paint for tingle-style rosy cheeks?
Ooh! I just thought!
This will work in conjunction with the activity stations:
You could give each kid a card with the name of each activity on it as they come in - when they complete the activity they get a coloured triforce stamp!
When they have stamps by all the activities, they can go to you to collect a heart container (small bag of pieces of heart shaped chocolate, etc).
I think that might keep things from descending into chaos too soon
OK, now I want a Zelda party. These ideas are awesome.
As for the whole weapons thing, even super safe ones might be looked down upon by alot of the parents involved. Maybe ask them before hand to make sure they're cool with anything you're doing. You don't want your son's party ruined when his best friends mom takes him away from the party because there are toy swords around.
I saw this happen when I was a little kid at a birthday party where everyone was playing cops and robbers, or something like that, with toy guns. The birthday boy was in tears for the rest of the day.

He is trying, but many of the LoZ games require a good amount if reading, which isn't his strong suit right now --- but he is working through it.
Have somebody dress up as Tingle and give out maps for all the activities. It's sadistic and in spirit!
And creepy.
Just like tingle.
It's been a while since I've played it but if you are playing games in order to group them up would could stamp them with the triforce of courage/wisdom/power it would be the same stamp of two outlined triangles and one solid one just rotated 120 degrees.

I can has cheezburger, yes?
These are all great ideas. Zelda music! I assume you've thought of that already, though.

Can you like, permanently break the forums?
Also try to add some story line between you and your husband to try to get your son to save you, it might be fun for him.

Satans..... hints.....
have Lemon/Lime, Blue Raspberry, and Fruit Punch Kool-aid and serve it in Mason Jars!
That way the kids will always have full mana and hearts!
