Another "Name that song" thread

Alright, so I live in Ontario, and listen to the Edge a fair bit. The only thing is, I can never catch this song's band/title.

Basically it's a Rock-ish song with a Techno-beat, and includes lyrics to an old Newfoundland folk song:

I'se the by that builds the boat
And I'se the by that sails her

It's really catchy so I'd like to hear more from the artist. Thanks in advance.

took me 5 seconds on google. You can put the lyrics you know right into google search, and it usually can find the song you're looking for.

Since the band you came up with was Great Big Sea, a band which almost exclusively covers Newfie folk songs in their original arrangements, I'm going to go ahead and say you've only found the original song. The OP is asking for a rock/techno song which uses snippets of that song's lyrics, which is a different thing entirely.

whuppins is correct, I'm aware of the many different google sites where they have the original lyrics of the folk song that they got the lyrics from, but this is an entirely different song.

Well, their website lists the playlist for the last 12 hours, so the next time you hear it (or if you've heard it in the last 12 hours) just go to roughly the time you heard it and check around at those songs. It'll at least narrow it down for you.

hmm, ya, my bad, didn't see the "techno" part.

I know who great big sea is, I'm canadaian and I'm not a newfie and I don't mind their music.

I apparently need to improve on my reading skills.

For some reason I felt compelled to do a forum-search for "Newfoundland" (I had a reason but completely forget it now), and that's when I saw the thread. Weird, really.
