So what's the dealio? My brother just called me and told me to register. Odd...
Apparently, something is going on with the Dreamcast's 10th anniversary. Going to Dreamcast.com allows you to register for a user account at the Dreamcast.com domain, as long as you have your Dreamcast's serial number. Apparently it was also posted on Digg, so I don't know what to expect to the site from the hammering that will ensue. Sorry for the brief description; I'm on the phone with my brother, I wanted to give you guys a heads up, and I want to go find my Dreamcast.
They want a S/N and everything. It's the number that begins with DU, right?
EDIT:
Well, they took it and created me an account, but there's nothing to do. http://user.dreamcast.com exists but only shows a blank page. If you try user.dreamcast.com/login it gives a 404, so it looks like it's just a placeholder for now and they're going to launch something soon.

CUZ THERE'S SOMETHING IN THE MIDDLE AND IT'S GIVING ME A RASH
The wikipedia has something to say:
Do you still own a Dreamcast?
Various news sources such as Kotaku and Sega Nerds have posted news that http://www.dreamcast.com is asking Dreamcast owners if they still own their machine by registering their e-mail address and console serial number. The registration page is offline and "temporally" suspended, however there is a lot of evidence to prove that this site is in fact fake and not run by Sega.
This includes the source code of the site being poorly written, the server not being on Sega's dedicated servers, the e-mail verification coming from a non-Sega domain, Google Ads and Play-Asia advertising on the homepage, as well as a Sega Direct link, even though Sega Direct is due to close at the end of March.

I kind of thought the site was too poorly designed to be official. But I figured it had SEGA's copyright all over it and SEGA would have shut it down if it were fake. I guess they're still getting around to it.
Hard to say. I sincerely doubt it's official though, pass17.dizinc.com takes you to the guy's congratulations you've installed apache page. You can try to get into his cPanel, the username is probably shenmue@pass17.dizinc.com, and the password is whatever his e-mail password is. Assuming that's the right account.
Anyhow, it's way too amateur.

... of course we could turn it into a cock-measury of our Dreamcast collections
Only about 60-65 games in addition to the system itself and accessories (Of which I have 4 controllers, two white and one black & one blue, the DC mouse & keyboard, the Mad Catz light gun, a VMU to match each controller, a official Sega 4x VMU, a no-name brand VMU, and a Gameshark which can also be used as a VMU. I have my DC connected to my HDTV via VGA.)
I do plan on owning all 250 US-released DC games eventually.
Grandia II
Skies of Arcadia
Time Stalkers
Phantasy Star Online Ver 2
Evolution
Sonic Adventure
Sonic Adventure 2
Sega Smash Pack
Crazy Taxi
Crazy Taxi 2
Eighteen Wheeler
House of the Dead 2
ChuChu Rocket
Marvel vs Capcom
Marvel vs Capcom 2

Street Fighter Alpha 3
Street Fighter III Third Strike

Bangai-O
Bomberman Oline
Quake III Arena
Shenmue
Jet Grind Radio
27 games, 5 VMUs (4 official, 1 non official), two controllers, one MatCatz gun, hooked up by S-Video. Not a great collection, but I imagine I have most of the essentials.

I own all of those except for 18 Wheeler. I have a couple copies of Virtual On as well. I loved the Dreamcast.
Oh wow this thread is perfect for me to hijack and try to get help with my problem.
My copy of Sonic Adventure refuses to boot. Apparently the system recognizes it and all, but when I try to play it goes to the SEGA copyright screen for a second then right back to the system menu. Anyway to fix this? Would using a boot disc avoid this issue?
I just put mine up on eBay, just waiting for a guy to pay me now. I liked the system but I think I missed out on the "magic" of it. My wife and I played the hell out of Soul Calibur, but even though I owned about 10 other "good" games, I simply never got into them.
I think a lot of it comes back to the controller. Once you play a 3d game with dual-analog input, it's hard to go back.
Nope, I sold mine. It was a great system at the time, but seeing as how most of the stuff I liked on it has been ported to other consoles or GameTap since then, I didn't see much point in keeping it.
I have one. Just not sure if it works; I know the cables are broken (one of the pins is shot), but I don't remember if there are any other issues.
As for SoA: my brother bought it, beat it and let me have a crack at it - when I sat down to play, I got as far as the South Ocean. After that, whenever there was a random battle (read: roughly every .0003 seconds) the game would lock up. Quit annoying.
So I bought the Legends version for GC and was happy.
I'm not/can't sign up for that site, but I do own a dreamcast and I it.

Dreamcast is the horse that was put down before it could show it could race. Sony's agressive ad campaign, push for DVD in the household and threatening stores who stocked Dreamcast games ( Kind of "if you stock Dreamcast games we won't let you stock our games" threats) helped push it out.
I still love the damn thing to death, and fuck no I'm not signing to "register" anything. It doesn't even say what you get for registering, but hey if you're stupid enough to expose your e-mail to advertisements for the rest of it's known existance, be my guest.
It's fake. Sega wouldn't have ads for Sega Direct (which won't be around for much longer anyway), and there is no way Sega would have google ads.
Also, you can register an obviously fake serial number and still get accepted.
Someone noticed the Dreamcast.com registration lapse and registered it themselves, and are now collecting a ton of money from the SegaDirect referral link and google ads, and as a side bonus they're harvesting quite a few valid e-mail addresses as well, which can be sold to spammers.
The DC is rad, and I still fire mine up on a regular basis, but this is as fake as your average pornstar's titties.
I got a Dreamcast but when I was young, I let the PS2 steal me away.
I never sold it though. I completely intend to revisit all the games I should have been playing when I was that age. I originally had Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi and Evolution. I am only missing Crazy Taxi for some reason. I picked up Shenmue about 6 months ago.
I'll make amends with that beautiful white box.

Oh yes indeed, two to be precise. My then g/f now wife got her sisters, cousins, and friends to chip in and got me one along with an extra control, vmu, and a copy of marvel vs capcom 2 for Christmas one year. Yes, notice how I said then g/f now wife. That is a keeper if ever I've seen one. (Both my wife and the Dreamcast.) I later got my hands on a black dreamcast, that sports bundle, and I keeps em both. As for games, I have a few, including 4 copies of Soul Calibur, original in case with manual.

There are only two dreamcast games I care about, and they're near-unfindable.
Lack of Love and Napple Tale.
I might buy a japanese dreamcast from them sometime.
Here's my little list:
NFL 2k2
NFL 2k
Unreal Tournament
Powerstone 2
Caesars Palace 2000
Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare
Jet Grind Radio
Blue Stinger
Illbleed
NBA 2k
World Series Baseball 2k1
Soul Calibur
NEScaster (127+)
Ultimate Fighting Championship
Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram
Stupid Invaders
Shenmue
Ready2Rumble Boxing
Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear
Fighting Force 2
Sega Bass Fishing
Silent Scope
Mortal Kombat Gold
Resident Evil Code: Veronica
Seaman (+mic)
If you take out Soul Calibur from that list, I would have to say that Sega Bass Fishing is my favorite in the collection. I know that should be a crime, but it plays so well. I'd love to find the fishing rod controller if anyone wants to talk trade, pm me.
I hav e a black Sega Sports Dreamcast that I bought two months ago. It was brand new and never used. The CD's in the box and all the cables were still shrink wrapped. I sit's on top of my Wii in a show of dominance. I only have four other games besides the unopened sports game. Marvel vs Capcom 2, Soul Caliber, Virtual On: Ontario Tanagram and Power Stone. I do use it to explore the world of home brew's as well.
I own two. Bought one for Dead or Alive 2, played it nonstop until the system got temperamental, then bought another Dreamcast so I could keep playing.
Popped Shenmue in, and it'll go to the SEGA splash screen, sit for a minute, then goes to the DC's menu, and claims there is no CD in the drive.
Oddly, should I open/close it, and hit 'play', it'll repeat the process. So I'm kind of thinking the laser mount isn't moving correctly. Does churn quite a bit when I tell it to do stuff.
e: Had the brilliant idea to try playing a music CD. Which is working. So maybe it's just the copy of Shenmue? The disc is in good shape though, some minor scuffs.
A lot of problems with Dreamcast read errors are calibration problems with the laser. There's a really cool site that shows how to fix this (you have take apart the DC and use a really tiny screwdriver).

You have to be careful when you do this, but it can bring back "dead" consoles.
