I guess they're taking a break from SHMUPS.

Experience the first mind exercise game available on Xbox LIVE Arcade with Gameloft's "Brain Challenge" and harness the power of the wind to conquer levels in Codemasters' "Bliss Island," an updated version of the popular Windows Vista puzzler. Both titles will be available on Xbox LIVE Arcade this Wednesday, March 12 at 9:00 a.m. GMT (1:00 a.m. PST).

Don't let a good mind go to waste! Increase brain activity with "Brain Challenge," an entertaining brain training program that helps players develop stress-management skills through a wide variety of games. A personal coach helps players develop their abilities in five areas of cognitive function, including logic, math, memory, visual thinking and concentration, in a fun and easy way.

"Brain Challenge" has something for everyone including Daily Test Mode, where players undergo a series of brain exercises and Stress Mode, which tests player's abilities to stay calm under stress. For those looking for a relaxing experience, Creative Mode allows players to relax and explore their imagination and Child Test lets players play & share their exercises with younger people. For competitive players, the game features multiplayer support for up to four players offline and online, as well as detailed stats and graphs where they can track their overall performance and progression.

Developed and published by Gameloft, "Brain Challenge" will be available worldwide for 800 Microsoft Points and is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB. For more details on "Brain Challenge" please visit:

So spring is basically here, which means Bionic Commando: Rearmed and Super Street Fighter II: Turbo HD Remix should be along before too long, right? Wasn't "spring" the given release window for these?

    A non-DS brain game?

I'm definitely intrigued. I'll at least DL the demo.

Apparently Bliss Island is a PSP port. The PSP game got horrendous reviews. I'll try the demo (I try all XBLA demos after all), but I don't think I'll be picking it up even at a 400 MS point price.

As for the Brain Age knockoff, it might be good, but we have Brain Age 2 so I think I'll be passing on it as well. I've got enough XBLA games on my backlog at the moment though (N+, Triggerheart, Poker Smash, and Rocketmen) so a week of not much is no great loss on my part.

Does Ikaruga even have a tentative date or do we just do rain dances every week in hopes of it showing up?

XBLA games are rarely announced more than a couple of days in advance. TeamXBox accidentally put up a review of Ikaruga a few weeks ago which they took off soon after so that leads me to believe that it'll probably be out soon, but how soon is anyone's guess.

EDIT: For that matter, I wonder how many people are going to be disappointed in Ikaruga. It's a fantastic game, true, but it's also extremely difficult, and I just remember how many reviews slammed Omega Five & Triggerheart Exelica for their difficultly (both of which are substantially easier than Ikaruga).

Do you really want Ikaruga that bad in your life? The game made me go crazy and attack my cat because it was so frustrating. Since that day, the game has been sealed back in its case. Taunting me... Calling me...

FUCK, I hope they never release that game.
