The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I just moved my car down to Los Angeles and for the first time it is being parked outside.
It seems that everything that gets set outside down here gets COVERED in filth. Right now this is mostly because there are trees near my parking area that just dump pollen on my car. Its like my car was crop dusted.
I really only drive a few times a week right now, so i don't really mind having a dirty car. I'll definitely get it washed if i'm going to be taking someone out or going to the beach. But unless i'm doing this kinda stuff, i dont really want to pay for a wash. (would be a moot point if I had hose access becuase I would just wash the thing on Saturday mornings to start my weekend.
Does leaving your car dirty fuck up your paint? If i were to wash the car once every two weeks will my paint be ok? I don't know if it makes any difference but the car is an 03.
As far as I know, no. I've seen a car that's had dirt on it for 6 months straight (lol Nebraska winter) and it looked fine the first time it was washed in spring.
Since it's LA i don't know how much they use salt, but the paint job is more likely to take damage from things on the street, like loose pebbles/rocks kicked up by tires, any treaments such as salt, loose asphalt from newly paved roads, cars in front of you kicking said stuff up into your car, etc..
Bird crap is horrible for paint; it contains uric acid and causes fading. Two weeks would be fine, but you don't want to leave it on for much longer than that.
Eggs are horrible if people hate you. Similar effect as the bird crap but much much worse. If your car is ever egged it needs to be immediately cleaned.

Most other things won't hurt it.
tree sap is bad, a few days on is okay, but if it gets baked in by the sun the paint will get damaged/discolored.
