I'm trying to get some CCTV files to open up for an investigator at our Sheriff's office. The extensions are .60d and .60h for one set of files and .dav for the other set.
I've got as far as the internet telling me that the first set are some kind of GE files. The web site says "Used by various closed-circuit television systems for recording surveillance video. GE has several programs available for download that reads these files produced by their systems."
Well I can't find the player for them. All I've found are interfaces into the system it runs on. All we have are the files on disc.
I haven't found jack on the .dav files. Google wants it to be .wav. Anyone out there know how to view these files?

The 60d file is 337,920 KB, the 60h file is 595 KB.
The .dav files are 1077 and 1113 KB.
From what I've been reeding it sounds like the 60d and 60h refer to camera locations. I'm not totally sure you can play these files on a PC without the cameras attached.
And before anyone asks no I can't upload them, they are evidence.

From those sizes it sounds like the 60d file is the actual information and the 60h file is some kind of header file. It's not going to have much video on it at half a megabyte.
Try getting in touch with the company that made them?
I suspect it wouldn't hurt to try and open said files in VLC -- if you're paranoid, make a copy of them before trying to open 'em. Worst case, they just won't display anything.
I've tried Video Lan, nothing. I can't find out what company it is, all I have are the files from the investigator. I've found video codecs for similar files before, these ones are just causing me a lot of trouble.
There's not going to be much video because it's probably like 30 seconds of someone using like a stolen credit card or something. They are never long when they bring them to me.

Have you tried copying them and renaming the extension to some of the more common file formats? Or looking at the 60h file in wordpad to see if it looks like any particular codec?
Couldn't find much in the text of the files, good idea though. All I found in one of them was WaveletData and looking that up doesn't explain much. The other started right off the bat with DAHUA. That appears to have something to do with video compression but the only site it takes me to appears to have a corrupt database for their downloads.
I'll keep looking, but I'm thinking I may be screwed on these ones.

d sounds like data, h sounds like header.. and have you tried contacting the manufacturer?

Did they get pulled from a GE DVR or NVR or one of their IP cameras?

I asked around and it's from the GE Kaltel line of DVRs. You'll need the WaveReader software from GE to do the playback and I can't find a free download of that on the website. You may need to pass a request back up the line to get a copy of it.
And it sounds like the investigator fucked up, the video files should have had an application on the same CD for playback as a standalone player.

Well that sucks. The two places these videos are from I would be surprised if they knew what they were doing. I'll let the guy know to go back and ask for the player. I always end up dealing with problems like this where it is assumed that the IT guy will be able to do anything. Thanks though.

No problem. The embedded DVR's tend to be full of proprietary codecs. There is another option however. Contact GE Security Technical support and explain it to them. I'm guessing it's not the first time they will have seen this.
