According to Destructoid, Rare is finally going to be showing some stuff from Banjo-Threeie or whatever they're calling it on Tuesday, 8:00 AM PST.
Are we excited? Yes we are.
I thought they showed stuff about this before, but I guess I was wrong.
I didn't care too much for Banjo 2, but Banjo 1 was basically an expansion for Mario 64. If Banjo 3 is a Mario Galaxy clone, I'll walk away with a gigantic smile on my face.

You have to remember this isn't the Rare that made Banjo Kazooie. It's just a shadow of it's former self.
What didn't you like about Banjo 2? I thought it was better in pretty much every way.
By that point, I was really burned out on collecting things.
The formula was really run into the ground during the N64's run.
EDIT: Not to say Banjo 2 was anything like, say, DK64. Rather, I just couldn't take anymore games of it's type for a while.
Well, fair enough I suppose.
This game is probably going to be horse shit but the Banjo games were some of my favorite of that generation so I'm going to blindly hope that it turns out as awesome as them.

Damn, well here's hoping they don't mess it up. I love the games for the 64.
They just need to remember to put in some incredibly obscure items that are only collectible through even more obscure cheat codes, and then have them stored in the pause screen on a mysterious menu that doesn't seem to have anything to do with anything.

That pretty much sums up my feelings towards both games. My friends rave about them, but my soul had long since been jaded towards action/adventure games staring furry forest friends.
I really enjoyed the first game, but it for me is symbolic of the right size and scale of a fetch quest. Banjo Tooie and its semi-sequel Donkey Kong 64 were fucking retarded in size and scope.
The 3D platformer has really changed since, so such thoughts may not even be relevant to the outcome of this project. But I really hope its a lot more like the first than the second.
What didn't you like about Banjo 2? I thought it was worse in pretty much every way.
It was a huge letdown. The transformations were lame( oh washing machine! Yep totally funny for five seconds) the level design was pretty awful and the new moves were really lazy especially the split up techniques.

And I'll be annoyed in roughly the same way as I was when the sequel to Sunshine ended up being Galaxy. I want more nonlinearity in these kinds of games, not less.

Well I hope they keep pandering to me and not you, because I'm tired of all this free roaming crap. I want a game, not a sandbox.
Did anyone else make awesome deathmatch mode with Banjo 2's FPS mini game?
Everyone Jinjo's (who have 4 heath and move twice as fast as a normal character)
Set to one of the following:
Only Grenade Eggs, everyone dies in one hit but its nearly impossible to hit someone so lots of yelling
Only Mine eggs. These turn invisible, or nearly so, when placed. They will kill a jinjo in one hit. Everyone is super fucking paranoid inside of 30 seconds

Oh yeah? Well then, I hope that Sonic Unleashed has a hub world and levels that you have to play through multiple times in different ways in order to collect items that unlock more levels when you get enough of them.

I've still got my heart set on Conkor's Bad Fur Day 2 or (YOUGUYSBETTERNOTFUCKTHISUPORSOMEONEWILLGETSTABBED!) Perfect Dark 2 more than Banjo 3.
Jak and Daxter 2 was pretty good for an open ended platformer, so I'm not fussed if Banjo 3 heads in that direction.

Sonic Unleashed does have a Hub world, and you do go through levels multiple times to unlock new ones.
While I liked the linearity of SMG's worlds, I think it would've been better if it plopped you down in one big level with 3-7 stars in it, gave you some direction as to the location of one of them, and turned you loose, like SM64 did.

Yes, that's pretty much the only way SMG could be better, by giving us big worlds to explore.

I can't remember where, but I am sure that sometime in the last month I read a quote from one of the project leads stating that the game would be structured very differently from the N64 Banjo games. Also, it looks like it is just going to be called "Banjo-Kazooie," and we know the art style has changed, so all signs are pointing to a complete reboot.
I'm optimistic. I realize that Viva Pinata was only one game, but I think it could represent a return to form for Rare.
I realize that Viva Pinata was only one game, but I think it could represent a return to form for Rare.
You forget, Viva Pinata was actually twogames, and the way Rare's been talking about this new one being "not quite like the old platformers" (or something like that) has me seriously worried they'll be crapping out another Party Animals.
To be fair Kameo went through 3 different consoles in its development and suffered like many games due from the development time bloat causing them to restart from scratch and throw something together at the last minute

These guys took Star Fox and turned it into a game about collecting nuts and berries and shit. Trust me, if there's a way to ruin a good thing, they're not only capable of doing it, but doing it in ways that boggle the mind.
Still, I really really wish they'd make a next-gen Blast Corps.

Okay... who's fault is that?
Rare's
Well the switch from N64 to GC was their fault but was only like a year into development
Then Microsoft bought them and they were forced to get it ready for the 360
edit: and Star Fox Adventure was also not Rare's idea it started off as a game called Dinosaur Planet, then Nintendo saw the similarities in the design of Dinosaur Planet's Anthromorphs and Star Fox's and had them make it a Star Fox game.
As long as they keep the collectible shit within reason, and I'm a bear carrying a bird around learning bizarre combat moves as I make my way through a cartoony and slightly sinister world, I'll be good to go.
Man, I don't know what some of you are talking about when it comes to bland level design in Banjo-Tooie. Hailfire Peaks and Cloud Cukooland were pretty freakin' amazing back when I was a kid.
I will give you the "scale it the fuck down" card. That game was massive.
