Quick PS3 cable question

NorayNoray Registered User regular
Hi guys, I'm buying a PS3 soon, mostly for MGS4, and I was planning to hook it up to my brand spanking new 37 inch Samsung 1080p tv through HDMI. However, I was just wondering which cable I should get. The Sony one is the most expensive and takes longest to ship, but usually, first party cables tend to be the best. Do 3rd party HDMI cables suffer from slightly lesser picture quality or should I just go with the cheaper option?

Also, as an aside, my PS2 looks completely like ass through regular scart connection on my HDTV. If I get component cables for the PS2 and get 480p (for games that support it), will it look, well, not like shit?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Mine came with an HDMI cable. If yours doesn't or you need another one: www.monoprice.com

And in my opinion, everything I've tried that's SD on my HDTV looks like ass. I almost cried when I saw how they cheated at motion in FF XII. But you can certainly try the component cables. Or if you're getting an 80GB PS3, try using your PS2 games with the PS3 upscaling.

Yeah, I always go with monoprice for all my cable needs, I can't praise that site enough.

Also, from what I've come to understand, there is no difference in quality whatsoever when comparing a 5 dollar HDMI cable and a 60 dollar one. Because they use a digital signal, the cable either works and you get the best possible signal, or it doesn't work at all.

    Anecdotal experience for you.
I use an HDMI cable I bought from monoprice and have had no troubles with it at all. Everything looks amazing and our TV is 61 inches.
I had a slight issue with oranges and skin tones "glistening" while watching some Batman: TAS the other day. However, the cable was loose thanks to my cats.

Because all data is sent across the cable digitally any hdmi cable is fine. All the problems of analog cables aren't present in cables which have the signal sent across digitally.

I'll add a link and details later, using the iPod atm.

Go Monoprice. I purchased 3 12' cables from them and they were like 10 dollars each. Totally worth it and I buy all my cables from Monoprice now.

Unfortunately, I live in Europe, so Monoprice is no-go, and our only choice for PS3's is 40GBs, which is pretty shitty, as they have no back-compat, which is why I asked about the PS2. Anyone know if those 40GBs come with HDMI cables included?

    Thanks for the answers people.

I just recently bought a PS3 with GTA 4. It was the 40GB one, no it doesn't come with a HDMI cable.

Also, any HDMI cable will do.

If you can score an HDMI cable for free in a box of Cracker Jacks, use it. Like was said, get the cheapest one you can find that works.

If you're in the UK give this place a try, they have quality cables. I'm just not sure how their prices fair compared to others in the UK.

I might add this guys are counter suing Monster cable right now. So I would buy at least one cable from them for that alone.

Try http://www.dealextreme.com/. No PS3, in the UK at least, comes with a HDMI cable, unless the company you buy from bundles one for free (in which case they will tell you).
